Which direction should I travel when visiting OZ according to the climate?

Where do I start in Australia according to the temperature?
I will be backpacking around the world next month. We will be arriving in Sydney at the end of May- beginning of June 2008.
Could anyone recomend which cities to visit according to the temperature? Should we start in the South/North?

We want it to be warm- and not cold and raining (as we get enough of that over in London, England). What direction should we travel in? Which Cities/places are worth visiting?

We will be there for 6-8 months- and working at the same time, maybe harvesting.

Head straight up the coast to Queensland . Don't go back down past The tropic of Capricorn until September but take your time if you are going down the West Coast as will still be a little cold in Perth But you can enjoy the beautiful Spring wild Flowers in WA' Darwins tourist Season comes to a bit of a standstill in September but it's a super place to be in around August.Call into The GoldCoast and Airlie Beach going NorthIn Queensland. WA Call into Coral Bay and have a swim with the beautiful colourful Fish in theWorld Heritage Ningaloo reef just off the beach amazing Vaste amounts of land but very interesting

Australia is perfect all year round.
The beaches are better in summer.
The rain used to come in winter now summer.
Our beaches in Southern Queensland just got washed out.
Northern Australia is always warm.
Rain doesn't usually last long.
Just storms mainly.
Visit Sydney and Perth.
Cairns, Broome, Sunshine Coast, Whitsunday Islands.
You may need a couple of years to do it properly!

The Eastern states and Tasmania can get quite miserable during the winter months, especially further south as it's closer to Antarctica, and gets snow.

During June, July and August, which are our winter months, I'd stick to Western Australia and the Northern Territory, as well as South Australia. It's a good opportunity to check out Uluru, and although occasionally it'll rain, it hardly ever gets far below 20 degrees, especially since right now there's a drought.

After that, move to the Eastern States, since it'll be cooler there and the weather over West can get fairly extreme, especially since you're English - weeks of weather over thirty degrees, and some days even going over forty.

You should come to North Queensland in winter... That is June to August. The most glorious weather. Townsville is a great destination. If you are from London you will definitely appreciate the winter here. The lowest it gets is about 4degrees and that is only about once or twice a winter. Most of the time it sits about 10 - 15 degrees.

June, July, Aug is winter here. Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra & Hobart get quite cold & sometimes wet in winter.
In winter the best places to be are Qld and NT they are hot all year round so best to visit in winter when they are at their coolest but still warm, after that WA and SA don't really get cold, and both are the v hot and dry in summer.
Sydney & Melbourne have the most normal temp. if your from the UK.

Starting in June i would start: Qld (Brisbane/Carnis) - NT (Darwin) - WA (Perth) - SA (Adelaide) - TAS (Hobart) - VIC (Melbourne) - NSW (Sydney)

jade=)
Come to melbourne you'll love it and you'll probs just stay here
i would say go to sydney but i think it's reallly hard to get a job up there and everything costs more
