ok look at it this way - the best-
Nightlife/clubs/pubs - sydeny, melbourne, brissie
the arts - adelaide
resturaunts - sydney, melbourne, adelaide
multiculturalism - adelaide, sydney,melbourne
shopping - cheapest - brissie, melbourne, or adelaide
more range - sydney or melbourne
low living expense - adelaide or brissie
public transport - adelaide
environment - adelaide, brissie
for homosexualism - sydney, melbourne (adelaide becoming very tolerant also)
low crime rate - brissie
cleaner - adelaide, brissie
- the bad-
racism - sydney, brissie
snobbery - sydney, brissie
overcrowding - sydney, brissie, melbourne
high crime rate - sydney, melbourne, adelaide
drugs - adelaide, sydney, melbourne
does that help ??????
it all really depends on what you wanna study too
i know that adelaide is a great place to study if you wanna do anything to do with medical, the arts, engineering or research. I went to Adelaide uni....loved every moment. |

Perth, Perth or Perth. I live here as a British ex patriot. My partner works for The Graduate School of Businees at Curtin University and it is the best uni in Australia in its field, and that's official. Jules, Australia. |

well it seems from your question you are more interested extra curricular activities and if you want that then Gold Coast if the best known as Las Vegas of Australia, crazy town, every night is a party out, and it is full of tourist and multi-culture and is a paradise for surfers and water sports, with some good universities...but if you are worried about studies then Melbourne is the best... |

Melbourne for multicultural , shopping and restaurants.
(Voted as World's most liveable city) |

There are pros and cons of all cities. I would check out the websites of the different unis as they all have info on the city. e.g. Canberra - http://www.canberra.edu.au/college/living.html
Sydney or Melbourne is great if you like the buzz of big cities.
The other capitals are great if you like a different lifestyle. Perhaps you could go onto Yahoo Groups and talk to people from the different areas and that way you can chat.
Good luck. |

Melbourne is the Best City in Oz to study.
I hate to say it but Sydney are all stuck up and rude and the only culture you'll get there is racsim and snobbery.
Where is Melbourne has a diverse community and embraces all cultures - which is evident through our many, many clubs/pubs n restaurants.
Adelaide n Brisbane.... Bit quiet, but nicer ppl than Sydney siders.... Sorry NSW, this is a GENERALISATION... so please nice Sydney ppl, this is not targetted at you. |

Any city in Australia would suit. Are you here to study or explore the night life.I think you should go to the websites for the universities in each state and then make your decision based on that. |

Melbourne. It has all the qualities you listed.
Sydney is fantastic but a lot more expensive.
Adelaide and Brisbane are not as multi-cultural or happening as Sydney or Melbourne. However, Adelaide is a good place to go if you smoke weed. Brisbane is a good place to go if you're if you into red-necks. |

Both Melbourne and Sydney have everything you want in a big city, and offer almost all possible courses. However Sydney University really is world class and one of the best universities in the world. Sydney is a very vibrant happening city, with a gorgeous climate, and easy trips to amazing places to visit.
You will discover from asking this question there is a big rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney, and people will argue constantly in support of their favourite. Best answer:
Log onto the websites of the bigger uni's and check the exact way particular courses are taught and make your decision based upon that. You will have a brilliant experience in either city, but Sydney Uni is my Almer Mater and is a brilliant place to study, with all the top current facilities you could possibly expect.
Main Uni's:
Sydney - Sydney University, University of New South Wales, University of Technology in Sydney (UTS), University of Western Sydney and the University of Woollongong.
Melbourne - Monash Uni, University of Melbourne, Latrobe Uni, Deakin Uni, RMIT, Victoria University, and Australian Catholic University.

Sydney is the place to be since their are so many universities to choose from and a great social life to be found in the city.
I've lived in Melbourne when i was a teen and i hear that they have a good university there too. i tend to believe that people in Melbourne are friendlier, but that's my opinion.
i can't speak about the other states since I've never been. |

Melbourne is the most liveable city in the world, Fantastic shopping in Chapel Street, Awesome restaurants on Southbank, great nightlife in the CBD - reliable transport through network of busses, trams and trains and some of the best universities in the world! |

Night life, shopping, transport: Melbourne hands down
Multicultural community: Sydney (though Melbourne has a large mediteranean community)
Much as I'd want to advocate anywhere but Melbourne, for the reasons you give it'd probably be the best one for you. |

Adelaide is Very Quiet so not there, i don't know about Perth and Darwin, Brisbane has a night life and all, Sydney is expensive but has all that stuff, and Melbourne is where i've always lived so I am a bit biased in that it is the best. But it is. It's all about which suburb in Melbourne though so pick an inner city one and you should be right. We are snobs but we like to pretend were not. |
