I've stayed at many 5-star hotels, and I would have to say that you can't go passed Crown Towers. Don't mix it up with Crown Promenade; which is no where near as good.

The Crown Towers just oozes elegance and sophistication... from the moment the doorman opens your car door for you, to the entry foyer (which is simply spectacular). The rooms are opulent; with huge bathrooms (including a spa bath). And the indoor pool actually has a submerged spa bench within the actual pool.

The views city-side are probably slightly better than harbour-side. But staying at Crown Towers, you can spoil yourself rotten -- because you deserve it. If you're on a budget though, try grabbing a room on wotif. They quite often sell rooms at Crown Towers for half price; and it's well worth the indulgence.

Try the Langham Hotel or Grand Hyatt. Both upmarket 5star hotels with classic luxury.

I stayed at the Ibis Hotel in Melbourne. It was great.

Novotel on Collins is gorgeous, its inside the shopping centre too.

Its lovely to wake up and look out your window to be surrounded by boutiques.

I reckon The Westin on Collins Street is a swish joint.
