The same way as it does anywhere else... the corollis effect is too weak to make a difference. That's just an urban myth.
I was very dissapointed to discover this when I moved to sydney from London 6 months ago.
"A misconception in popular culture is that water in bathtubs or toilets always drains in one direction in the Northern Hemisphere, and in the other direction in the Southern Hemisphere as a consequence of the Coriolis effect. This idea has been perpetuated by several television programs, including an episode of The Simpsons and one of The X-Files. In addition, several science broadcasts and publications (including at least one college-level physics textbook) have made this incorrect statement."

Depends on your point of reference. In Australia, it probably goes down, away from the surface towards the center of the earth. If your point of reference is on the other side of the world (i.e., opposite Australia global coordinates), the water falls up, and gets closer to the place's surface, probably without ever reaching it because of inertia and impermeable obstructions. In the U.S. it falls at differing angles, depending on which part of the U.S. you're in.

I found this fascinating but it does whirl down the sink in opposite direction to in the Northern hemisphere. You have to see it to believe it.
