Who's gonna NOT vote for liberal next election if this $950 bonus is blocked by them?

I sure won't be. I've been liberal up to now, but this is a joke.
Additional Details
Yeah I agree it seems like a short-term bandaid solution, and he's just placating the masses, but would actually work out cheaper for them to give us $950 now, and wait till 2010 to bring in the tax cuts?. I'm not sure how much they intend the cut the tax rate by, but I'd be interested to see if it works out basically the same in the broader picture over time?. Plus, the whole idea of the 'handouts' is to act as a catalyst for our economy. Would an extra $20 or $30 a week for the rest of this year 'excite' our economy the way a payout would now?. He's got the dropping a stone in a pond theory, where the waves still reach out after the stone has been dropped. If the economy has stagnated (which I don't know yes or no, but I know I have reduced spending a lot), then would this have a snow ball effect?. At least for long enough to get us out of trouble?, and as far as being in debt, it's something we won't be able to avoid in this climate I reckon. We can pull ourselves out again later

because you dont get $950??

I dont know if I can vote at the next election or not yet, depends how early or late in the year it is.

Didnt they say that they were going to block the first stimulus package as well??

it will go through eventually.

Me, I am stuffed either way, the government believes my ex who runs two companies only earns $2,500 per year, and that is 2 thousand 5 hundred, I have not missed a zero or three, 'chooses' to pay $2 a day child support, the Government 'chooses' not to challenge this. He an his defacto and 4 kids on the SPP have been dobbed in for a decade, but because of the privacy laws they can't knock on the bloody door, my 2 x $950 would be spent on one of my daughters TAFE courses, that has from last November gone from $900 to $1800 because of a course merger. I will still be broke no matter what Malcolm Turnbull stuffs up as I will rob Peter to pay Paul to get my daughter the education she deserves. The braces for her sibling will have to wait. Education being more important than an overbite. I'll be voting Greens, at least the trees may make me feel better. Love to all Judith oxo

For the Liberals to come up so strong against it .... there must
be something that affects them directly. I Won't be voting for
them................
Rudd is doing the right thing , each Country is doing this to help
their own economy...what's with that , that they want to hold us
back from getting some well needed help ? Hell .... the world is
going mad. Theres no room for being stingy at this particular stage
in time.

I think it would've been interesting to see what Liberals have of done over the past year with the economy had they been in power.

I honestly don't think it's something either party could predict or prevent.

I can understand why they want to block it, it will leave us in a huge deficit. The other thing being, how much of this $950 will we end up paying back once taxes gets lifted to help pay the debt back after the economy stabilises? Two, three times.. I don't think all is what it seems.

It will help us now, but will it help in the future?

Neither party has proved themselves to me, it about time we had a decent third candidate with enough power to try things another way.

I agree with ABC, tax cuts would be a better option and would help everyone. I think we should only be spending what we have, not borrowing more.

ABCDiamond Britzinoz.com
Before you make such decisions, make sure you do so based on the real facts of what is actually happening.

Not just on not getting $950 at the expense of something going wrong.

I am no expert at this, and am not sure which way is best. Tax cuts or $950 ?

Tax cuts may actually be better for us ?

Ryan Oceros
It wasn't just the Liberals that blocked it, the Greens and several independents also demanded the Senate enquiry. It's pretty immature to just vote for the party that gives you free money.

But more to the point, the effects of the $950 bonus will be fleeting. As soon as everyone has blown it on imported clothes, trips to Bali (on Tiger Airways) and, if the economy is lucky, Australian booze, then we'll come to the realisation that no countries have any demand for our imports any more, not even China.

We need to weather this storm, and then stimulate the economy when the rest of the world has turned the corner, thus slingshotting us into post-depression prosperity.

Samantha
yeah i will be pissed if they block it. Not that i ever would have voted for them in the first place, but i definately wont if they block this!

loony lefties....
This economic stimulus is good in theory, but what would YOU spend a $1000 bonus on? Most would buy something made internationally, and not locally.
One step from National Socialism.

Pirates geo
Are you serious? You think the government should be giving away this money in petty cash handouts? You're just annoyed because you aren't getting your $900... that money could be spent elsewhere.

I think giving away this kid of stuff is stupid. People should work for their money. Cash handouts isn't the way to do it.

I Live In Paradise
it has not been blocked at all at this stage

Chairman Kevin is rushing his policies down our throat and does not allow for any debate at all

yes i would like the $950

i would prefer the money to be spent on hospitals first

yes i could do with the money but the hospitals need it more

Charimen Kevan has done little on infrastructure in this money spend if its not Kevans way there is no way at all

what about water harvesting, all the rain in nth Queensland and not 1 drop is harvested, and could be piped down through all of Queensland, nsw and the Murray darling and the farmers could use this water for enormous crops and benefits to all Australians

If you can be bought by such petty and transparent platitudes, then you haven't supported Liberal for the right reasons in the past. You are the weakest link, goodbye.
