People who do it think it looks unsuspecting it's arson when it's hot. But they will always leave behind evidence and will get caught. It'll just be a matter of time. They seriously have mental issues because the bushes can't possibly make them angry - unless they're crazy or have a fetish from setting fires.
I'd say lock them up and throw away the key. Let them rot in jail. Deprive them contact to their loved ones as if they're all dead. |

It is more than one person. The reasons are different, but most fire setters have a sexual dysfunction that is satisfied by setting fires.
The copy cats are doing this for other reasons. Some want to thrill of destroying things, and others want to see their work on t.v.
Regardless when they are caught they should be charged with murder. I don't think Australia has the death penalty, too bad. |

The papers in UK were going on about terrorists
Basicly the Americans had information that lead them to believe that the fires were started by terrorists , It read ( and the infidels homelands will burn as ours once did ) could all be propaganda for more pro-terrorist war supporters , it certainly made me think for a few minuites , but would i be ignorant in saying there is a very low risk of any muslim fanatics living in OZ?
Also , i thought bushfires happen naturally? through years of drought and dry leaves being shone on with intense heat ?
Are people in australia looking to blame someone as it is human to do so? this terrible thing has happened.....who can we blame?
Either way , my thoughts are with all Aussies at the moment |

I ask myself the same questions each year here in California when fire is out of control ravaging the mountains of Southern California forcing thousands of families to move from their homes before the flames consume them. The people who start these fires are definitely sick in the head and have a warped sense of what they think is entertainment! |

Considering the conditions extreme temperatures, high winds and years of drought there is no way these arsonists didn't know just how dangerous their actions were.
They're not mad they are just plain bad people.
They deserve the full weight of the law to come down on them.
Regarding the comment regarding terrorists. Our Prime Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd, suggested these people were no better than terrorists.
No one has said it was an attack by Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. (That's not what he was talking about.) |

god only knows why some one would do that, the first time l have agreed with Kevin Rudd was when his statement that it is mass murder, its absolutely disgusting and my heart goes out to all affected, my only grief was why arent people insured??? (especially with a morgage) they are in known bushfire areas, house insurance is as little as $30 a month, at least they would have something to fall back on, |

If only we knew we could stop it before it happened. Every Summer there seems to be fires deliberately lit all over Australia.
The people that light them are clearly disturbed mentally.
As for why - who knows, boredom, sick entertainment, obsession with fire, destructive tendancies.
Here's hoping they can catch the culprit(s) for the Victorian fires. |

Unfortunately some cases of arson have been traced back to members of firefighting crews, who seek praise and attention for when they put a fire out (despite the fact that they lit it in the first place).
Despite whatever reasons can be given, if you could understand the sheer intensity of the weather in Melbourne on the 7th of February, lighting a fire should have been the further-est thing from any ones mind. It's disgraceful behaviour, and it's even more numbing to think that an arsonist could be behind such devasation. |

I think the question that should be addressed instead of this.
Would be:
How should the incompetent government of Australia prevent future incidents of this nature and what exactly are their regulations, policies or procedures in reference to evacuation and reconstruction.
I certainly have not seen any thought from the authorities and residents, in this aspect of the situation. |

according to today's news from Australia it could have been started by
terrorist and there's no telling how far they would go, |
