Why are the British fleeing for Australia?

I was reading some articles about how many British people were leaving to take up residence in Australia, and it was pretty amazing because I enjoyed London when I visited (a holiday, however).

I was speaking to a British person who came to live in Perth and they told me about how bad Britain was, and whenever I speak to anyone from England they will normally remark "it's not a safe place". I'm actually a bit surprised because England is somewhere that I would go back to if I could, but of course maybe I'm not seeing the full scope of things as a tourist.

Why in particular are so many British people leaving the isles? And how come British people seem to have no patriotism towards their country? I don't mean to incite trouble or insult, but I have never met a British person who enjoyed England or had anything positive to say about England. With all that I hear, it makes me wonder if maybe I am better off sticking around in Australia?

Thanks in advance, any answers would be appreciated. :)

I don't think it has much to do with the weather, more to do with multi-culturalism and over population. We have a high crime rate with over crowded prisons and lot of stabbings and shootings. It is not the country it was, when I was proud of it. I was born her in 1945 and it is unrecognisable to me these days. The people have certainly changed.

Britain isn't the place it used to be. People and Society have changed almost beyond recognition. The warmth and friendliness of locals has largely disappeared, employment is precarious, education is failing our children and parenting has declined to the point where the majority of children aren't taught basic manners and values.

Worst of all, though, is the sheer joylessness of being stamped into the ground by relentless taxes, over-priced goods and services, and a Government that is determined to grasp as much of our money as it can through methods such as parking fines (they do this by making it almost impossible to park anywhere legally), parking charges and fines for so much as blowing your nose at the wheel of your car. Fuel prices have gone up by about 40% this year and we are in a position where we have to choose between heating or eating and paying other bills.

There's no sign of any let-up. Quality of life is poor, housing is poor, everything is over-priced. It's a miserable country and I would leave for Australia in a heartbeat - something I have wanted to do for eighteen years but will now never achieve.

Sample life here by all means, but don't burn your bridges because you may also find it joyless and unpleasant.

Our law system is terrible, people who should be locked up for long peroids of time are out very soon, there is no respect with anyone, the amount of immigrants we let in have totally changed our culture.....in my town, there has been an influx of 10,000 polish, imagine what that must be like on someone's culture?
British people don't stand up for themselves and protest like the french and so we're walked over....this means we pay much higher taxes and work very long hours
I would say living in england is really hard and so many people move for an easier life

Well for a start it never stops raining which results in kids becoming bored so they get drunk and cause trouble.
Imagine being caged up 12 months a year and when you do get out it rains :(

personally i feel that England has alot to offer, good healthcare, good education system, alot of history and some beautiful landscapes. However we are being over run with immigrants, have poor weather and everyone is constantly stressed due to the over pricing of everything. Australians appear to be more friendly and laid back. They have more jobs to offer and some Truly amazing sites.

One comment on here was "I am from Australia and have moved to London for a change"

"For a change"...

That may be what many of us Brits want aswell.

The UK is OK, it has its bad points, and its good points, but once you have spent many years in one country, you often fancy "a change".

Australia is a great place to experience. Some Brits come here and stay, some go back after a while, others move on somewhere else.

To those who say the UK is bad because of high Tax etc, be aware that the Australian Tax does work out very similar.

But, Australia does have much better weather.

I was just reading a thread (on a British Expat site) called "This is why I like living here! " on this very subject... and it was about the weather :)

The British are patriotic about their country, but they are also prepared to say what they do not like about it.

People love moaning about thing.

This country has been raided and settled, Romans,
Celts, Jute's, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Huguenots
etc. over the centuries. We are now experiencing an
influx of new people. Give it time. By the third generation
they will be moaning about things too !

because it has gone sour , and many more would like to join you down there .

I am from Australia and have moved to London for a change.

The main reason might be the weather, its not too good here

Also Australia is so much more relaxed and friendly... well mostly you come across rude people sometimes,
but 80% of people here are so rude.. more a London thing i think

I would recommend visiting here there is some beautiful sights :)

Stupidity Leak
Because, they are finally realising that us 'convicts' got the better deal.

I love England!!! Everyone moans!! The reason people r off 2 oz is to see the world!! Not everyone wants to be born, grow up, work, die in same country! If you did come you would love the experience and enjoy it!!! You could try it for a year see how u like it!
Id move to America if it was as easy as Oz 2 get a visa!

Just look at the place (like London) then you will see why they're leaving. Its filled with Muzzies, Idians, Africans, Asians etc. Brits are flocking here, but let me tell you this, things aren't that much different in our major cities like Sydney and Melbourne. In some areas of these places its already starting to look like hell holes. People need to realize that we European people are a minority on the face of the globe and should not be allowing alien people/cultures into out countries cause' no other people in the world allows their countries to get flooded with outsiders. Its Africans, Middle Easterners and Asians who come here from their failed countries and come here in preperation to impose their standards on us. 3rd world immigration from Asia and their intermixing with our population will be the death of us.

I couldn't be bothered to read those three paragraphs :P

but i think it's because of britains terrible weather.

They got caught stealing a loaf of bread :P

and because they pronounce racism 'racialism' :)

Charles AKA CeeJay
Because people must think it is more fun to have Christmas in mid summer. All the food tastes so much better when the kitchen is boiling hot to match the cooker!

Well, my best guess!
