Why cant sydney harbour bridge or opera house be considered as one of the seven wonders of the world?

They are both beautiful but neither has anything phenomenal about them.

I think the opera house is included but the sydney harbour bridge is just a pile of steel. It's grey and boring except for when there's lights on during fireworks.

i'm assuming you mean Industrial Wonder of the World. That's because, in my opinion, there are so many many more structures that are better than these. They may be two of Australia's best known engineering and building feats and landmarks, but they wouldn't top the world lists. Take a look at some of the temples in India for example and consider the history behind the building of them.

There was a Vote a few years ago about the modern wonders of the world. Many natural & man made places were voted on and The Aussie attractions missed out. Simple n ot enough people think they are wonders.

Personally I voted for some ancient wonders & natural wonders not modern ones.

I know.
Didn't they just recently change it all, i remember i was in Paris when they changed it. and we where like what about the Eiffel tower?? i mean come on, the statue of jesus in brazil is considered one! lol they obviously didn't think about it.

To me I think the Opera house is so beautiful, it just fits in with the city really well. Maybe if they said sydney harbour as in the harbour bridge, opera house and harbour it self.

Catherine
I dont know.. Probably because it isnt as good as the other wonders of the world.

The Opera House looks like Sonic The Hedgehog took a bad turn, and crashed into the ground.. The bridge is just a bridge to get to the other side of the harbour.

If it was natural, then you could consider it one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Since it isn't, you can only consider it a wonder (in a different context):
With the Harbour Bridge, it is a WONDER that the Iemma Government isn't charging more to cross it, seemingly that his government is one of the most capitalistic Labour governments, that I have seen for some time.
With the Opera House, you can only WONDER if and when, the powers that be will actually refit the interior. Recently, my brother and his wife went to see a show there.
Their comment,"The seats are old, drab and threadbare. Not worthy of being called a showpiece, unless you are going to see a show from the outside".

Mel
Because then there would be 8 or 9 wonders of the world not 7.

Most wonders are so because they are natural formations, in reality the harbour bridge and opera house are not all that old and are not as important to the outside world as they are to Australians.

because i dont wonder about them.

and i think most of the seven wonders are not man made.

like they are natural land marks.

and because sydney harbour and opera house were man made they arent that magestic as the others.

i dont know. haha

I think the Opera House is referred to as ''The Eighth Wonder of the World'' , I used to think Wonders of the World stood for ''Wonder how that got there''

Only an Australian would ask this question. Both structures are good and the SOH is a lovely building, but there are dozens of more impressive structures around the world. Do you really believe these two are in the same league as the Taj Mahal or the Pyramids?

black
Have you actually visited them? The harbour bridge is just a bridge...nothing at all spectacular. The opera house is a dirty looking structure. I was most let down when I did the tourist thing and went to stand on the steps. I looked at it and said "is that it?"
They are not at all things that inspires wonder so by no means should be classified as a wonder of the world.
