Hey mate! I think you actually mean mate! That's because the simple word as mate can have so many meaning. You can say "How are you mate?" or if you are angry with someone, you can say "What's your problem mate!?" To fully understand this concept, I guess you just have to live here.

You mean like Gday Mate as apposed to How ya going buddy.

Think you meant "mate" instead of mite.
Mate means nothing else but "fellow, friend" etc.

Such as "g'day mate, howyagoin'?"

It's part of their "language" called "strine". When I had been there for my first time I had some certain problems to understand them. Now, after my 7th visit, I can understand them real well. You must puzzle at times when they're talking with you but it's fun.
By the way, I'm German trying to talk their accent at times which is quite funny.
I'm bloody lovin' it.

"Mite" is how they pronounce "mate".
It's kinda like surfers saying "Dude" all the time. Just a friendly greeting, mate!

Hi, the only time I hear "Aussie's" say "mite" is in the grocery store when they order "Vegermite" or when they go to the hardware store "miter 10" Waltz

I truly was going to answer this seriously but have read what answers have already been given. The result is that it has all been said mite.

The_Mouse
Hey, mate! I don't say "mite" all the time, mate! And the word is "MATE", by the way.

Cheers, mate!

And thanks for the two points. You bonza!

LOL You just got to love our accent and sarcasm, eh!

tuppenybitz

serendip01
That sounds like a Kiwi pronunciation to me, not an Aussie one!

I say dude and chick more than 'mate'... Only really blokey blokes or tryhards tend to say it excessively here.

shannonduncanlance
All Australians do not use this phrase, as with any country there are different levels of culture and class - but the majority of Australians are fairly relaxed in regards to speech but some of us still carry a certain degree of culture.
