I'm a Sydneysider and just about everyone I know including myself is laid back.... informal relaxed and easy-going, I would like to know what your perception of laid back is. |

My opinion is that many Australians are laid back if you are laughing at their jokes and telling them they and their country are as great as they've been led to believe all their lives.
If you offer an opposing opinion (especially if you happen to be English) they quickly show themselves to be anything but laid back, often getting highly defensive and occasionally aggressive.
The laid back image is also made to look inaccurate in Shepherds Bush or Earls Court on any Friday or Saturday night. I've never seen a ruder group of foreigners insulting locals and their country, and I've been to Spain and witnessed the appalling British! |

We're not laid back. Especially Sydneysiders who are nowhere near laid back. But compared to Americans Australians in general are probably laid back. But compared to Italians, Greeks and other Europeans Australians are not laid back. |

Depends where you look in Australia. South Australia seemed pretty laid back to me. The beautiful beaches, the beautiful girls, the parties. Everything there is "too easy"!!! |

There are no laid back Australians. That's a myth that the Australian media still likes to perpetrate to make us think we're all laid back, she'll be right, easy going, look out for your mates kind of people. I think the last laid back Australian probably died in the early 1950s some time, because we're a bunch of uptight, selfish, materialistic buffoons. Well, in my humble opinion :) |

haha Corey Delany might have had something to do with that one.
Ive alway thought it because of the sun, sea, sand and surf aspect, when you look at all the typical Australian things like water sports, clubbing, sport, BBQ's and sun they are all to do with being laid back.
do you not like it over there?
