Why do people emigrate to Australia?

If you had to give one reason to emigrate to Australia - what would it be?

Born a Fox
Before the recent changes to the Industrial Relations Laws were in place I would have said the working conditions were a fairly good reason for emigrating to Australia. As a government worker I can utilise flex time, get 4 week annual leave, 18 days sick leave, 90 day long service leave after 10 years with an additional 9 day every year after the first 10 and the office closes down from Christmas Eve until the day after New Years day all on full pay. This gives us a certain amount of flexibility and freedom to enjoy life outside of work. Depending on where you live the weather can also be a factor as is our lifestyle. We tend to look more towards a good balance between work and home. The cost of living is also quite good and we have so many different nationalities and cultures here that people seem to settle in quite nicely.

Clive
Australia does not have Tony Blair.

Money, climate and recreation.

I work in oil and I'm emigrating in a year because I'll be taxed half as much, earn twice as much and can go surfing without a wetsuit. Plus the young ladies of Aus don't have beer guts like so many over here seem to.

Must be the sun, sea and sand.

I think that most people are under some impression that it is ALWAYS sunny and warm in Australia, which isn't the case in most places. Melbourne for example, is so unpredictable weather wise(but still a great city). And also, it's so far away, the other side of the world, I think people just see it as something a bit 'exotic', and new. My reason to emigrate, more than the climate, would be, the people, their laid back friendly attitude is fabulous!

I have been there twice. First time was for a year and the second time was just for 3 weeks. I felt that it was a very relaxed country and people don't really judge you like in Europe. Crime seems low as well.

trixa
The cost of living is so much cheaper than the UK

possum
my husband is aussie, we met a few years ago in europe, and i now live since two years in australia. After many travels, i can only say that oz is the best place to be! people are cruisy, nature is great, camping in national parks is free, ... what else can you ask for?

People are friendly and everyone treat everyone else with a "fair go" attitude.

(sure, there are horrible people here too but that's expected just like in any country).

smilingireland
I really don't know why so many people emigrate to Australia, but I'm guessing the sunshine is a factor.

treacle
Quality of life :)

Because it is near to New Zealand - you can make the money during the week in Australia and fly to NZ for the weekends.

spoolintanabe
its become to multicultural , where caucasians kids are non-existance at some schools

and then you'll see why some people are against there people coming here,
it only takes one to get citzenship, then they bring there whole town over. non of them speak english off course.
