Why do people think Australia is one big desert with kangaroos hopping around and koalas tapping on the window? |
It's such a weird stereotype, that's only in the outback, people! Additional Details Hey, hey, hey! I didn't say ANYTHING about Americans (whoever it was who said "is this the american bashing forum?" i said "people" so if americans think they're the only people, maybe they DO fit the stereotype! |

Because they are flamin' idiots. And no it's not only the Americans that are so stupid, it comes from other countries too.
Ignorance is bliss, can't help but laugh.
For the most, it's a lack of education. |

Not for nothing but I'm from the USA and I'm not dumb to think that however when I do see ANIMAL shows they do show kangaroos hopping around obviously not in the cities but it's not like it doesn't happen. |

Probably because tourism Australia keeps producing advertising showing the amazing vast outback and kangaroos hopping around.
I swear the majority of international visitors must think the only animals we have here are damm kangaroos and koalas. It is a joke.
If people did some more research into our country maybe they would learn a bit more about the diversity we have and that Sydney isn't the only city in the whole country. |

okokok wow, is this the america bashing forum. first of all, technically speaking most of australia IS desert, just not the part where most people live, which is along the coastlines. And btw, there are lots of kangaroos, and koalas (fact) as far as tapping on the window, i dont know about that, i would think thakangaroo are probably more like deer and probably will more likely found crapping in your yard |

That's what people learn from TV and movies and I agree with Travis we also stereotype Texans as people wearing big hats chewing tobacco while riding off into the sunset. |

Because they're dumb ignorants. They also think that all Australians speak with a broad accent, when only a few of us do. |

It's not true! There are also a lot of swagmen walking around the bush and sitting beside billabongs boiling their billycans and hitting on jumbucks. They guys are mostly called Bruce and the girls are mostly Sheila and they all walk around saying stuff like "A fair dinkum on your billabong, cobber". Thee are also some Whinging Poms around, and you can buy bushtucker (Like Witchety Grubs) in the supermarkets. There are lots of snakes and guys who hunt crocodiles and say "No worries"! It's great! |

well the vast majority IS desert...... so that is something I can understand people thinking.... but the roos and the koalas... lol they think this because sometimes I think we aussies like to encourage that idea just so we can shyte-stir foreigners for our own fun and entertainment ..... remember the DropBears afterall..... |

Hi,
What do you think about the United States?
Have you seen pictures of Yosemite?
Yellowstone?
Glacier National Park?
The great big trees found in the Redwood National Park and Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks?
There is a tree called the Grizzly Giant in Yosemite that is 33 feet across at the base. That is about 10 meters across. It is about 200' tall, or about 70 meters. I don't know the exact height.
For taller trees, in Sequoia National Park, there are several dozen trees over 200' tall.
The coastal redwoods are even larger in mass, though not as large in diameter as the Grizzly Giant. There are over 10 trees in the Redwoods that you can drive a car through a tunnel cut into the living tree.
Nevada is a big desert too. Kansas and the adjoining states are prairie, with lots of nearly flat areas, where thousands of acres of wheat, corn, and other items are grown in 1 square mile tracts of land. If you look at satellite pictures from space, you can see round circles across these states, of the irrigated farms, where there are patches of green, centered around a large pump, with a 1/2 mile long pipe watering the farm.
So have you thought about visiting the United States? |
