Why do some Aussies think Terry Irwin is exploiting Bindi? In what way?

Terri Irwin is all about the almighty dollar and not what is best for her children, but that's showbiz for ya. It will be interesting to see where Bindi is in another 10 years, I hope she fars better than Britney and other child stars.

The opinion is based on the child being so young and missing out on the normality of those formative years.

Perhaps if Terry were to be the predominant face rather than Bindi, it would be looked on more kindly.

i think she is to an extent - tv shows, hosting appearances, bindi dolls, books etc. i think she is banking on the tragedy of steve's death to help keep them in the limelight and so terry doesn't fade away now that steve is gone.bindi's always in the limelight, i don't think she is having the opportunity to grow up like a normal kid. she is always surrounded by adults and having to make adult decisions. she's growing up too quickly

I'm not sure whether I'd call it exploitation but I do feel that Bindi is growing up way too fast, either through her own choice or because she has been pushed into it. I feel that she should have the time for an ordinary childhood, you never hear about what she does at school for instance and I feel that she has been deprived of that

Koala, (ex K Bear). I usually agree with you but be serious. If any parent said to their under 10 kid "Hey 'nnnnn', how would you like your own TV show and be the idol of millions of kids throughout the world?", do you seriously think they would say they didn't want to do it?

As parents and mature and experienced adults, it's up to us to judge if our kids would be best served by any 'opportunity'. Please don't give me that BS that the kid wasn't forced to become a celebrity in her own right. Of course she wasn't forced, but nor was she mature enough to judge if it was the best thing for her. Her mother should have been a responsible parent and should have put a stop to it or at the very least, should have limited her exposure. If her father was alive, he would have been the focus for all publicity and promotion and the kid/s would have been ancillary and minor players in that. Now, his dreadful wife has seen that she would personally be unacceptable and has pushed her daughter into the limelight instead, soon to be followed by the little boy. Grasping, greedy and a bad mother!

Bindi's grandfather who was the guiding light in all of the early Irwin story thinks Bindi and her little brother are being exploited and believes that it should be reined in. He has certainly been very badly treated by a grasping, greedy Terry Irwin even though without him, nothing would have existed in the first place.

It could be because Bindi, at 9, has home schooling, and mixes more with adults than children. She is a very capable, talented and strong minded "young lady" but I wonder what she will be like as an adult. Will she think she has missed out on being a little girl? I'm sure Terri is a great Mum, and when it is all worked out, how she raises her daughter and son, is up to her, no matter what any of us think. Just not my choice.

People will usualy say something to the effect that they did with her. It's because since she is a child it's uncertain whether it'd her idea or really her mother's to endorse her father's enterprise and be as involved as she is.

I don't think Bindi is any more exploited then any other child celebrity and I'm positive she isn't being forced into doing anything she doesn't want to (not by her mother anyway)

And as sick as we all are of seeing the latest Bindi clothing line/merchandise/tv programme.....at least a decent percentage of it is going to a good cause, can the same be said for others that have grown up in the spotlight such as the Olsen twins or Miley Cyrus?

My issue is with the exploitation of Steve Irwins death.

You are exactly right - no one can win in this situation.
I think Terri and her family are doing a great job. Wish I had as much energy as her, raising kids, running a business and global trotting.
Remember it was Bindi herself that wanted her own show etc... her mother didn't push her. She has her dads courage!

is Terry Irwin a good mother -- the children look happy as can be so i would say YES

she is doing what she believes is the best for her 2 children
