Why do the white 'australians' still insist on resenting the indigenous people ?

Despite an apology through the government via the PM why is there still clearly a hatred and division firmly in place in the hearts and minds of these decendants of immigrants calling themselves australians ?

It is the same in America. The rightful owners of the land the American native Indians have nothing. Even in this day & age after the genocide you would think that the European settlers that still inhabit their land would leave & give it back. But no they do not. After murdering the natives & stealing their land they have washed their hands of it.

Edit:- fashonion as much as you may hate the British they do not live in Austrailia, New Zealand, America, India etc......If you had not noticed the British Empire was reduced to the British Isles a few decades ago apart from the odd rock like Gibraltar etc....The British said sorry reluctantly in some cases & said yep it is your land. The British retreated. You can not use the British as an excuse for occupying land in this present day & age

But thier are people that have nothing to do with Britain like the European settlers that live in America who still to this very day occupy stolen land. All they have to do is give it back & go back to thier own countries in Europe. Now that should not be to hard should it.

Edit:-The British are thousands of miles away. This is hear & now. You can not blame the British for what happens now in 2008. Australia has had nothing to do with Britain for decades. The common wealth is not worth shite. It is just lip service. All the white people could bugger off to their own countries but choose not to. How the hell can you hold the British responsible for the state of affairs in 2008. Do not hold the British responsible for the mis-treatment of the native people in 2008. That would be taking the piss. The white "Australians" resent the indigenous population with no help from Britain what so ever. It amazes me that people have to look outside thier "own" countries for excuses

Drongo, I have seen a few of your questions and answers and they are generally ill informed, poorly researched, one sided and categorising. But to humor you, I do not resent people based on race, gender, age or sexuality, I generally resent people who are morons. If you would really like to push it, I could draw offence to the term "White Australians" and not "Of European descent", however, that is the general problem with this country, people cannot say it how it is, and we tend to bow down to the noisiest people to appease them.

Well I'm Australian and the only person I generally hate is my dad. Hatred and devisions don't go away with an apology from a governement if that was true we wouldn't still have racism, terrorism ,ect around today. I think you are way over generalising.

That's a bold rationalisation, and I guess it would come down to personal experience. I live in a town (Armidale) with quite a high aboriginal population where everyone gets along quite nicely. I won't say there's no problems at all, but there's problems with some of the white australians as well. And my mother lives on an island which is the same. I think in both places the koori people have a strong cultural identity and connection to the area, as well as strong role models in their community and a focus on education and art. Of course in saying that I used to get nervous if I had to go near Redfern Street when I lived in Sydney... I don't know where you get the clear "hatred and division firmly in place in the hearts and minds" though. Maybe you should talk to some different people!

It is the same in any country the British invaded the natives became second class citizens. Tradition and history were destroyed all for the sake of the royals. It should be the British who should say sorry.

Edit

The British were the ones who brought the convicts to Australia, no other country did. They were responsible for the miss treatment of the Aboriginals. Is it a coincident that America, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia all speak English? We all had our own traditions. Even the relatives of the convicts think they are above the 10 bob people who moved in the 60's. Everyone who is a Citizen of Australia is an equal.

Clearly an apology is not going to change the World is it?Yes,the PM might have apologised but that is not going to change history is it?What indigenous people need is to be able to move forward in a positive direction. There is a need for unity and appropriate strategies in place to help all Australians.I respect indigenous people and understand their struggles and issues in society. However,it is hard to comment on these issues because I am not an indigenous person.Somehow I think that we always see one side of the story and we struggle to see the whole picture. It is human nature to see and remember the bad things and to generalise. My view is that actions speak louder then words and so far not a lot has been done in order to resolve indigenous issues. It takes two to tango!

I don't resent indigenous people. I do resent drunken low lifes who live week to week off dole payments, but I don't care what colour they are, you could be blue but if your a low life then I don't like ya.

Obviously there are many indigenous Australians that live in normal society, they work jobs, pay taxes, etc.. Some of the low life ones just let the others down.

I don't agree 100% with the apology, while I'm sorry it happened to them, I don't apologise because I didn't do it, I wasn't even born yet. If an apology was enough things would be fine but you always have to have some greedy bugger put his hand out.

EDIT - Why should I apologise? It was nothing to do with me, doesn't mean it wasn't right for the government too.

The problem is, they don't just want an apology, they want money. Greed.

Sorry I'm being honest.. I'm not going to pretend like some other goody two shoes do.
