I wish we had no crime but unfortunately that isn't the case. There are robberies, murders, drug related crimes, car theft, joy riding, rapes, and every other crime you can think of! However it is on a lesser scale than we hear about from the United States. I am not afraid to go out at night in my neighbourhood but there are some that I would NEVER go out alone in the dark in! Small towns are better than the cities obviously but most of the towns I have lived in have a high drug and alcohol problem. I would love to live in a crime free society but unfortunately this will always be just a dream I'm afraid! |

We do Douggie! But i know what you mean, there is just not as much of it here is there?
I think its because we are a new nation and we had to forge this country out of nothing, we did this using mateship morals and hard work....The lessons learned by our forefathers, are still engrained in us...therefore we have more respect for each other....
Did that make sense?
Hope so!

Dougie Dougie Dougie.............
Yet another ill-informed American asking daft questions.
We do have crime, it's just that we also have strict gun control laws here.
EVERYWHERE has less crime than the Americans........... |

hmmm. I use to live near Kings Cross, Sydney and I saw people being stabbed right outside my window.
Maybe you should read the paper or actually come over to Australia to see there is much crime.
OMG!! I cannot believe the above answer about drugs being legal here! Yeah right! |

We have crime, but we're not living in fortresses and it's illegal to carry arms. Our children don't go to school armed.
We have a lot of drug-related property crime, and the same sort of horrible and pathetic problems experienced anywhere. But, yes, in most places the pace is slower and we're mostly fairly contented right now, with high employment and good living standards. |

Every country has crime!! We don't have problems with arms coz they are banned. However, there is more so drug problems. |

We have plenty of crime, but compared to other more populated countries, on a lesser scale. We have to lock our homes, vehicles - that still doesn't stop thieves, home invaders. Then there are the gangs, arsonists, and all the other idiots who set out to make people's lives hell. Apart from that, we are like any other country. |

Yeh most of the stuff posed is true enough. Crime happens, but it is mainly property related. Gun controls are very strict, and most of it is either driving related, drug offences or civil complaints.
But in the poorer areas like the Broadmedows area in Melbourne, or in Port Adelaide in Adelaide, you wouldn't want to be by yourelf after 10pm. I geuss thats true for many countries. |

You are also more likely to be involved in violent crime in Australia than in the U.S. Check out the link:
