Why doesn't Sydney have Friday night shopping?

In Melbourne most shops are open both Thursday and Friday nights. Any reasons why Sydney's aren't?
Additional Details
Okay, okay I get this intercity bashing. Basically, I just wanted to know if it is something traditional, or has it been legislated for, and if so, what are the reasons for it. I know Sydneysiders think Melburnians are boring but I'm just curious as to why there is a difference. This is not an exercise in Sydney bashing. Please keep replies as topical as possible.

Everyone knows that Sydney siders are backward. Melbourne has better shops anyway.

Sydney people can shop at lots of times, they have better things to do on Friday nights than go shopping.

You leave our bogong moths alone. They are heading down to the Snowy Mountains to aestivate but got distracted by the bright lights of Sydney on the way. You notice they come to Sydney and even have a look at Canberra on the way but decide that spending the summer sleeping in the mountains is better than going on to Melbourne and spending the summer there. :o)

What's with shopping? All the shop assistants are out clubbing Friday nights.

Where did you say you were from?

Deniliquin?

There is better things to do in Sydney than shopping on a Friday night. The only thing most people like about Melbourne is seeing it in a rear vision mirror driving out of there.

old dick withers
we dont shop on fridays cos tis on thursdays. Fridays r the first day of the weekend.
I went to melb once and saw the sights.
The Torrak tram and the start of the Pac hwy bak to sydney. Also in Melb they havent anything better to do, they queue up and buy tickets there for a funeral
