Why don't we Americans never encounter that many Australians in the USA?

We have a lot of the Brits here in the US, but I never really met up with the people from Australia. I'm asking because I love an Aussie's personality and their accents. They are so funny and cut, especially their way of talking when they say things like mate or bugga. However, Hugh Jackman is an actor from Australia and he is so good-looking. Also, I won't forget Steve Irwin, may he RIP. I enjoyed the Australian suspense movie, "Wolf Creek." It was a really good movie and it was also very moving for a suspense film. I was just wondering why Aussies don't really visit the USA, but the Brits do. Unless maybe Aussies do visit this country and I'm just not in the right place.

Sorry about a few misspells. One of my favorite places to eat is "The Outback!"

We Aussies love to travel, believe me there are plenty of us in the US. Keep on looking, trust me, we're there. We're every where! *lol*

Having said that, there's only one sure fire way for you to run into a bunch of Aussies and that's to hop and plane and come check out the most amazing country on the planet!

300 million Americans, 20 million Australians - you do the math.

Australians are noted (like New Zealanders too) for being very well travelled. Enough Aussies travel to the United States that Qantas (our national airline) has weekly flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. So if you absolutely must find an Aussie accent, start stalking the Qantas airline terminals in those cities. You could also keep an eye out for them at major US tourist attractions such Las Vegas, Disneyland, New York landmarks (Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building), Smithsonian etc and many others. Also keep a look out for Aussie expatriates at any store that carries products that would remind them of home (especially Tim Tams).

It's probably because there are only 24 million of us, so we're spread pretty thin. There are cities and armies with more people in them. Anyway you know what they say about too much of a good thing?

Are you kidding me?

In my gym, I've counted no less than 11 Aussies and that is just from the days I am at the place. Who knows how many more are members that I haven't met. The last place I worked there were no less than 3 people from Australia and I was hired to replaced the 4th who went back home. They are here in the US in numbers, which is fine by me.

I got nothing against the Brits, but I really like the Australian outlook on life. Straight-shooters with tact. A sense of humor that brightens my day whenever I experience it.

No worries. They are here.

I'd certainly rather have Aussies visiting here than Brits. The Brits are rude as hell.

Sorry it's not an answer! just wanted to say Hugh Jackman ROCKS

Aussie
A lot of Aussies do visit the states but personally I can't see the point ! We have enough American by products here including
McDonalds , KFC , TV shows ...when I travel I like to see something totally different ....language , food , culture , history.

We have a force fed diet of Americanisms .....nothing against the people but......

I think t's the exchange rate. Americans get a better rate going to OZ than they do coming to America.

Not that long back when the Australian dollar was worth more in America it was feasible for people to travel there but now the exchange rate is much worse. It makes it a lot harder to be able to afford to travel to America. Many Aussies are just not able to afford much of anything with the economy as it is.

Because there aren't that many Aussies in the world, the population's only recently cracked 20 million. And most will go to the west coast.

seriously why would anyone want to go to America?
there's nothing interesting there! other than the statue of liberty- I can't think of anything I would want to go to America for that is only available there, I can find interesting architecture in every country, there is nothing unique in America.

"The OutBack" is an American restaurant- it doesn't serve proper Australian dishes rather they serve food done in styles popular in America with a "Australian" name! This restaurant chain has no outlets in Australia

Karla C
have u ever noticed the exchange rate? if i was to go to the states for a holiday i'd need three times the amount of aussie dollars to have a good time. there are other places in the world i like to go to, where i get better value for money. i do know people who have been to the states, my son included, but america is a huge place. we also watch all of your criminal shows kinda makes you think it's safer not to go there! if you want to meet more of us come over here, we're every where...
