Now

Why dont australian do anything to make the government ratify kyoto protocol?

If australia dont ratify kyoto then countries like malidves will go underwater. when voting this time vote for a person who is going to do something about Kyoto protocol

When the eastern coast of NSW starts to disappear beneath the Pacific Ocean pray that it takes the wealthy, mindless, overfed, hypocrites who have supported a conservative government here, and washes them into the Tasman Sea. Then you'll see some ratifying like you won't believe, alas too late.

ll_jenny_ll here
Rudd has said he will sign ...

Shorty.

We can't do anything... we hav a crap PM and considering the fact that Howard is kissing Bush's **** doesn't help either.

The US will not let them and the Aussies dare not upset them.

Kyoto has not been ratified, however Australia is already meeting the targets set for it by the protocol. I think I'll vote for who I would prefer to run Australia. Thanks though. I'd be more worried about China and India with regards to the Maldives if I were you.

Australians have been more interested in personal wealth than the environment when voting over recent years. But the attitude is changing there, especialy with the recent droughts and dangerously low levels of water.
Australia's government sucks up to the U.S.A and the two are quiet intermiten which may have somthing to do with Australia not signing and acting on the agrement. They have been making an effort though, is not enough but is better than most in the world. There effort for renewables seems more positive than the UK's effort of late. But the government there seems a little to keen on Nuclear for my liking.
It doesn't always mater what people want, the government will do what ever they can get away with, whatever makes certain people the most money or gives certain people the most power. Doing right is not what governments in our time are about. And changing that is hard and takes effort from all of society, no mater where in the world you talk about.

But Why??

If your in the Maldives, then ya better move quick.
