As an Adelaide boy I don't actually take offence to your question. Because it means that the gems of Adelaide still remain best kept secrets.
Those who live here know what it has to offer and appreciate it. Those who don't live here will never get it. And we don't really want those people here in any event.
Don't pass judgement - as you admit, it's "hearsay".
I'll passionately defend this city till I die. |

There is always something going on in Adeliade. South Australia isn't called the Festival State for no reason. There are always music/film/cultural/sporting/historial festivals going on just check out their tourism website. |

Then move.
Or find new friends who are more fun than the ones you hang out with now.
Ever been to Mount Gambier?? Lived there for ten years, sure, boring as hell, but you still find things to do.
I go out in Adelaide most weekends (city, Norwood, Glenelg etc) and I always find different stuff to do with my friends.
What do you actually want from a city anyways?? :) |

Which is why us Adelaideans are so thankful you haven't decided to grace us with your presence.
Different things appeal to different people.
Perhaps your a theme park person or a shopping person?
Please, Perth more exciting than us?
Dream on |

I'm pretty sure Canberra is more boring than Adelaide. All the people I know from Canberra who ahve visited Adelaide seem to think so.
It's not that boring. If you live here (which you may, I don't know) you know what's going on and where things happen. The problem really is in the advertising. Nothing is really advertised. Also all the festivals and big events all usually occur at the same time. I recall last time we had the fringe there were another 2 big festivals on.
EDIT: alexg has the perfect answer! Reading it I felt a surge of pride for Adelaide...hahaha |

Stuff does happen, it just depends on what you like to do. Don't believe everything you hear. |

No it's not Adelaide that is boring.....it is just that some people are VERY boring.
Where do you fit in?
I've holidayed in Adelaide (4 times) & have not found it boring yet! |

There are no boring cities, only boring people. I mean, I can understand how someone in a small town might blame their boredom on their location, but if you can't find something fun to do in Adelaide that's no fault of the city. |

I lived there for a year...and as I said in another question...it reminded me of England in the 1970s...so behind in fashion and culture..and attitude. It is beautiful yes...the people are nice and friendly...but it DOES have a dark side...you can sense it if you are not a native...I was shocked by how the poor people live in one particular area...and by how sexist it is. People don;t seem to do anything other than have barbeques and go for coffee and shopping...and WHY are so many of the clothes made of nylon! |

i have been to adelaide and its a laid back place with great vineyards in the barrossa valley and mclaren vale plenty of good restaurants and bistros but probably appeals to the middle aged people 30-60 years a youngster would probably want more nightlife than adelaide has to offer so go to the likes of melbourne or sydney for a few years of study and partying |
