Why is it significant that both the Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2 are in Sydney at the moment? |

It is the first time both have been in Sydney Harbour since the 1940s.
The QM2 is the largest ship ever to visit Sydney, and had to dock at Garden Island because it is too tall to go under the Harbour Bridge and too long for the berth at Circular Quay.
At 7pm, accompanied by water spouting tugs, the QE2 will sail past QM2, recreating the historic crossing of the ORIGINAL Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth in Sydney during World War II.
Both ships were used as troop carriers in 1941 and '42. The ships will exchange whistle salutes which are audible for up to 16km.
The QE2 will tie up at Circular Quay before the fireworks from Mrs Macquarie's Chair at 8.40pm and a cannon salute from Fort Denison.
The QM2 will depart Garden Island at 11pm bound for Hong Kong.
The QM2 is about the height of a 23-storey building and two-thirds the length of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. |

Because its the first time two queens came to Sydney for other than the 'Gay Mardi Gras'? |

They are the largest most luxurious cruise ships around, who wouldn't want to go down just to marvel at the sheer size of them. Plus they haven't crossed paths coming into or out of sydney in over 60 years. |

Because the 2 ships have not been together for 65yrs! |

It is significant because it is the first time these two ships have been in Sydney since the second world war, and it brings back a lot of memories for many many people, because they were two of the ships that took the Australian's soldiers off to war. So for many people, mostly older ones, remember waving there sons fathers and friends off to war in the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth 2, the last time they saw these ships |

The cruise ship Queen Mary 2 enters Sydney Harbour for the first ever time, on it's maiden voyage around the world and the QE2 returns after 30 odd years. If my memory serves me, the sheer massive size of the QE2 was astounding in Sydney Harbour in the late 70s, but is now dwarfed by her sister liner. Could their imposing presence shoehorned onto the harbour be significance enough? |

because they haven't been at the same port in australia, since their world war 2 when they were troop carriers.
plus, mary is the biggest cruise ship in the world and we dont often get the chance to see one, let alone two, of these great beauties. |

They are the TWO biggest ships & both end with TWO.
Two twos are four. Two to the power of two is four. EEP!
Ps Mary 2 was supposed to be Victoria. The then king made a stuff up coz he was dumb. The guyz who made the boat said 'The greatest Queen of all time'. The king assumed they wouldn't ask if they meant granny. So they had to name it after his wife. Moral: Be specfic. |

inspired :)

because:
1. they are 2 big ships/cruisers... mary is the biggest ship atm with 23 storeys high (wow) lol
2. they are sister ships
3. the last time queen mary (QM2's mother) came was back in 1940s when soldiers came to sydney harbour.
it brings alot of memories back for older generation and its spectacular to see huge cruiser even 2 in the same harbour side by side.
u noe they were to big to fit under the harbour bridge? lol
wish i cldve seen it yesterday cos they had fireworks and everything.. but i was busy :'(
hope i helped |

I know the Queen Marry is the biggest cruise ship at the mo'.
Anyway I am put off going on cruises since all those mysterious deaths and disappearances. |

It is because these 2 are the largest ships at the moment |

Neither the Queen Mary 2 or the Queen Elizabeth 2 were in Sydney during the second world war, they hadnt been built yet.
The original ships, The Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth, were in Sydney harbour as troop carriers during the second world war. |

Incredible co-incidence. |
