Spectacle

Why is it that the only thing Australians ever talk about are kangaroos, Steve Irwin, and koalas?

I mean, whats the big deal? I mean, they're great and all, but why is it that whenever I try to talk about something else with them they always ignore me?

neither i nor anybody i know talk about kangaroos, Steve Irwin or koalas
except if we hit 1 of them when driving then just say hit a bloody roo in the car & it is now stuffed (dont hit a lot of koalas in the car & that wanker is already dead so nothing to say about him)

Asgre
And here I was just sitting here thinking that all we concerned ourselves with was who won the footy last night while cracking the next beer.

Riiiight ...

Well, if you don't want to talk about those things, don't bring them up.

Not everytime you ask a question will people answer, don't forget there is also a time difference!

Try to find a couple of Aussies whose answers you like, connect to them and then participate in the questions they are asking and answering.

That way you will get to know a few people and find out what else there is to talk about!

Cheers :-)

We ignore you because us Aussies don't suffer fools too well.

He's gone fishing.

WTF? You are talking to the wrong aussies then mate. I am not going to hang sh#t on Americans as my best mate is American, and funnily enough, when I was over there visiting him last year, I can't recall talking about any of them. Anyone else who reads this, Most Americans are like us, smart, funny, friendly and welcoming.

We got plenty of other things to talk about like sports, politics, cars, current issues in the USA.Our new prime minister! Water conservation, climate change.
In all honesty we are open minded and not ignorant.
AND if you want to talk about something else ask those type of questions.

Catherine
Riggghhttttt

I'm Australian.. I never talk about Kangaroos, koalas, or steve irwin..

Dont judge a whole country because of a few idiots.

Thats just what you AMERICANS think of us, you guys are the ones who are mentioning those things when it comes to Australia..

Probably the reasons why they ignore you is because they WISH they were Australian, and dont know anything else. Or most likely they dont like talking to you.. and when you talk to aussies about those things, they just continue with your rubbish as a joke.

Go eat Mcdonalds.. with your supersized meal that can feed a whole family.

The Mouse II
Well... YOU brought up the subject... I wasn't going to talk about any of those topics at all. Actually, Aussies don't even hardly talk about Steve Irwin.
We mostly talk about beer, bar b q and the State of Origin (which is on tonight)

Cheers

shazza
we also talk about Emus, vegemite, Cockatoos ,so try these next time Maaaate

Bella B
Actually no-one I know speaks of any of those things in any great detail or regularly.

Maybe it's you and not the Australians? Are you making the locals scared?

Although if your a TOURIST (and by that I mean someone who has tourist on their forehead, who's here to do the stereotypical Australian things (see koalas, kangaroos and especially if American, go to Steve Irwin's park) then people may not think you are interested in anything else.

Its because we have so many "roos" in Australia.
walk down George Street in the centre of Sydney and there are roos on evey steet corners and they even find there way into shops but the tourist like to have their photos taken with them but they are a pest thats why we talk so much about them.

shrebee

its only tourists that talk about those things,we talk footy, guys, chic's and beers!

Ken E
Funny, nobody mentioned any of them today.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha, problems with Microsoft Word, how much to feed someone's goldfish, superannuation, the State of Origin Rugby League, where to park the car, new buildings in the locality were among the topics that I recall.

The late Mr. Irwin was not a topic and I have trouble remembering him being mentioned more than twice in the past 5 years.

Here is a big hint. He was a big hit in the USA. A lot of Australians thought he was an idiot.

Xeo
How can you pigeon hole an entire culture so drastically like that?

They also talk about boomerangs.

(Thumbs up for saying "wanker")
