also in Southern Hemisphere (where NZ is located) Dec, Jan and Feb are the SUMMER months (opposite to Northern Hemisphere)
While in some parts of NZ it might not be HOT exactly, it is still not the depths of winter when snow is most likely!

You can get snow although it is summer in New Zealand just not at ground level.
Like Mount Ruapehu still gets snow. Just not as much and unlikely enough for skiing and snow boarding.
