I wouldn't say that they are high.
My land line bill is never over $90 a month.
My husbands business mobile is never more than $40 a month
and when I ring overseas(which is every day)I don't use the land line as it would work out a fortune.
I buy daybreak credit, and with that it's costs,1.9cents a minute to ring an Irish land line,3 cents a minute to ring an American land line and for $10 I get 75 minutes to ring a Irish mobile. |

Compared to where? You don't say where you are from.
Residential - We pay for both line rental and (untimed) call charges, unlike the USA where local calls are usually free. However, long distance charges in the US are much higher than Australia and the local vs out of area zoning means that more calls are classed as long distance in the US..
So, if all you make is local calls in the USA, then yes - Australian phone bills would seem high. If, however, you make a LOT of calls in the long distance category, the story may be different.
Mobile/Cell - we pay for outgoing calls only.
So overall, Australian phone bills are not so bad. |

why do you keep posting this question? your phone bill is expensive because your making lots of calls |

Compared the USA phone charges are cheap here in Melbourne. Mobile phone costs are almost double in the USA. |
|

But Why??
|
its cheap..... |

Better than here in Afganistan....you need a whole herd of goats to pay for line rental, and the call charges cost an arm and a leg. Literally. And internet costs the other arm and leg! I have to type with my nose!! (Lucky it's a big one). |

It depends on how you use your phone. While you pay for local calls, they are untimed and you can talk as long as you like for 25c - unlike the UK. If you use a mobile phone all the time rather than a land line, you are paying more because mobile calls are timed.
If you get all your services on one bill, there are special offers that ease the burden. I have two phone lines, a mobile and a computer connection. In the country we don't have luxuries like broadband. As all these are on the one bill, I get 125 free local calls a month which covers all my computer connections as well as the other local calls. The mobile phone costs me $20 a month which covers the cost of the phone itself and I get $20 worth of calls a month on the phone at no extra charge.
Two phone lines, a $20 mobile plan and bigpond dial-up costs me about $120 a month. I don't know how that compares with the rest of the world but I don't think it is unreasonable. |
