The song is about tieing (the stockmans) kangaroo down, since they jump around as the stockman was sick and he wanted his mates to help him out.
"Sport" is an Australian term of address, alluding to "good sport", someone (friend or mate) that is doing you a favour etc. |

Well for starters don't go by any of the last replies. It was an OLD song that's all. It does not happen and if some sick freak went and done that then...well...they are a sick freak!!
Us Australian's are not horrible!! |

I guest people are full. of it these days can't find any thing decent to do but to be going aroud tieying kangaroo up got to be crazy and low and desesperated to do the un- thinkabled, sick nut. animal, belongs to animal and man and women go together. not man and animal that is a sin and a condemnation, take care. |

This is for Emma
Sport in this context was used a generic name for a guy. Just the same as we say Mate.
In Britain we would have said "tie me kangaroo down, Mate"
Kangaroos have strong back legs to catapult them forward. They are the most dangerous part of the kangaroo. I guess it was for self preservation. |

In the Outback, where sheilas are scarce, a bloke has to find his sexual favours where he can. As the kangaroo rarely consents, it is necessary to tie them down to facilitate the act. |
