Of course - debt can follow you worldwide now.

tuppenybitz
do the right thing and clear your debt, australia doesnt need any more bludgers

jammer
We don't want your debt. Sort it out before you come here.

iansand9876
It depends on how big the debt is. That will affect whether it is economic for the lender to pursue you for repayment.

Quite possibly, as someone pointed out banks are worldwide, eg the UK's Yorkshire Bank is owned by...... Bank of Australia.

But it depends who the debt is with and where you got it, and which jurisdiction the debt is bound by.

The contract you signed would have had a clause such as "I agree the contract will be bound by the law of England"

As you will be aware, English courts have no jurisdiction in Australia, but any company which you encounter in Australia who lent you money in England are likely to want it back, or not deal with you again.
