The very very obviously quicker mode of travel is flying.

Australia has very strict rules for immigrant entry.

I would research those requirements if I were you in order to establish if Australia actually wants you.

Mel
I can't believe you seriously need to ask that. Well done on fitting the stereotype.

Ship will take weeks, even months.

Plane will approx 20 hours.

dysentery_boy
Ships don't go 500 miles an hour.

tuppenybitz
plane will be 14-20 hours depending where in the states
ship will take weeks if you can find a ship going there that will let you go one way

do you have any idea how hard it is to be allowed to live in australia, better get lots of education and an occupation needed in australia

18 and no skills will not get you a visa

man dude man!!!! is this a joke??

WHAT DO YOU THINK?? I AM GONNA WALK THERE ITS SO FAST.

you need a visa if you didn't know and if you have no reason to be here they won't allow you

Gillygems
You must be naeve if you think ships are quicker than planes. I suggest you do a lot of research before you go as you don't even appear to know how far Australia is from the USA.

Flying will take between 12 - 18 hours.

By boat will take 2 -3 months....

Ummmm take the flight?!?!!?

You wont be able to 'live' in Australia.. you can get a 1 year working holiday visa and then thats it.... if you want to visit again you'll only be allowed a 3 month holiday visa....

Bingalee
Oh for Petes sake! How could a ship be faster then a plane! BTW, it is 'Australia', not Austrilia.

And you DID ask which would take longer.

Are you serious? Maybe you should do a little more research before you leave the States. At least look at a world globe my dear. Now, what do you think? You are going to have to be better informed than you are if you plan to travel around the world. People will see you coming a mile off, you have pigeon written all over you, and I haven't even seen you yet. Practice traveling around in the States first. People like Ivan Milat love it when inexperienced young people travel around here by themselves. This is a big, scary unforgiving country. I'm dead serious - at least read a book hey?

fruitsalad
There actually aren't any passenger ships to/from Australia, only cargo ships, so you will need to fly. It would take at least a month on a ship anyway.

JadieBaby G
It'll take weeks on a ship and hours on a plane, if i would be going to australia from the UK it would take me 24hours so it'll be alot more for you plus you'd have to spend the night in Europe somewhere then head off to Australia

scottygarside
Your looking about 8 hours on a plane - maybe three days on a ship but the boat trip is probably a lot more exciting and comfortable.

Oh and don't leave the USA your too young and living in one of the best countries on the planet, albeit Australia has many advantages! - look it all up and do plenty of research - Its a big decision guys!
