Would i be able to take the heat?

Ive read on this about how the weather has been really hot like 40 degrees or higher even. I live in England where it is snowing and i cant wait to get to australia in just over a month or so, but Im actually worried now that I wont be able to take the heat?? Does anyone think it will be a big shock to me??

I know when it was sunny here a few years back it got to 30 and i found that hot

If the weather is getting up to 40 degreees now, will there still be a heatwave in march? or is it to early to tell?

Nevertheless, I cant wait for the heat :)

Im going to Sydney by the way

Hey Hannah, don't imagine for an instant that anyone can take 40Β°C heat in their stride. Australians hate it too but even though it's pretty terrible, it's unusual and by the time you get here, it will definitely be long gone and you'll love the temperature. The heat lately has been record breaking stuff and you're most unlikely to experience anything like it again for years.

It is currently really hot, sweltering! in Sydney! And, yes, you will notice a difference coming from the UK! It's hard to say what the weather will be like in March, but no doubt it will not be as intense then, as it is now.

Either way, make sure you stay in the shade, drink lots of water and remember to cover up with suntan lotion...!

Enjoy your trip!

after this weekend its cooling down here in sunny australia but if your worried about the heat go to a pool or the beach or stay in an airconditioned room

Firstly March will be much cooler then February, but there is always a chance of a heat wave. Luckily New South Wales rarely get heat waves and when we do they usually only last a day or two tops. The southern states have been in heat wave for over a week now with common temperatures over 40C, yuk.

Tomorrow is expected to be the hottest day we have this summer, in Sydney they are expecting 34C, down south in Wollongong (1.5 hours south) it is going to be 31C. Our west is a different story, western Sydney are expecting early - mid 40s. Inland New South Wales is expecting little below 50C.

If you stick to the coast when we do have hotter days you will be fine and most places are air conditioned such as shopping centres, hotels, etc..

Honestly, I'm 22 and the hottest I recall seeing on a weather report is 47C and that is always inland.

Coming from the miserable cold and snow it will be quite a shock I'm sure. As an Australian, I myself can't stand the heat either. Early 20s is nice to me.

Sydney will be fine.

I'm living right up the top, which is absolutely horrible, but Sydney will be a pleasant temperature- cold enough for jeans, but warm enough for shorts. =D

Just tell us when you are coming and we change the weather to cold, wet and grey for you to remind you of pommie land.

We do get days through our summer where the thermometer can go well over the 30C mark and stay there for several days. This year, with a few days well over the 40C mark has knocked a lot of people.

But let me just mention something and its a bit of an old cliche, its not the heat, its the humidity.

You can stand 40C when its a dry heat, but when its a wet heat (high humidity) it can be unbearable. Sydney is famous for its high humidity during summer.

I've gone hiking through the central desert areas when the temperature was in the 40s (just take lots of water and sunblock and a good hat) and wasn't anywhere near as uncomfortable as sitting inside my Sydney home on a 28C day with the humidity way up in the 80% range.

Fortunately for Sydney, this current heatwave of over 40C days has been accompanied by relatively low humidity.

This low humidity and high heat though, has another consequence and is why there are so many bushfires breaking out. Fires are much less likely to occur when the humidity is high, but it can happen.
