Assuming you are an American living in Australia
Sure, you could, but I'd really suggest waiting for a discrete interval after Bush has actually left the white house. Australians are pretty tired of the USA just now (IMHO). |

should be ok ad long as you fly an australian flag as well and higher than the US flag
that's how it normally works |

I think the rule is, that you can as long as you fly the Australian flag alongside it. A person I know who has a motel, flies the Irish flag and was told he had to also fly the Aussie flag alongside it. Maybe it's different in other states, but this was in NSW. |

Legitimate question.
Many countries around the world prohibit the flying of national flags from privately owned buildings. I don't know if that is the case in Australia.
Check with the nearest police station to be sure. |

Australia is a free country so go ahead, unlike the US where an Australian lady was forced to remove her Aussie flag from her garden by law enforcement officers. |

Yes you can - with an Australian flag.
Be aware though if you are going to have a flagpole - it must be in accordance to council approval.
There was an article a couple weeks ago on the news on an Aussie flying an Australian flag but the flagpole was too close to the sidewalk, therefore was demolished by the council. |

Yes I agree with most posts on here. Flying flags in Australia in your yard, on your property etc, is not common, and you rarely see it. There are "do gooders" out there, who kick up a stink when an AUSTRALIAN flag is in someones yard, so I would be wary with an American one.
It's not because we "hate" Americans, - we don't. But we are our own country and we hate the influence that American society has on our society. We would love to have our own culture and our own way of life, but everything is becoming so Americanised.
Anyway, as some posts have said, if you flew an American flag AND an Australian flag then that should be okay, but otherwise, just an American flag, it might push some peoples buttons. |

yeh...it should be fine!
But AUSTRALIANS don't really have a FLAG-POLE culture.
If you don't want any trouble from REDNECKS then add an AUSSIE flag next to it.
Add the ABORIGINAL FLAG to because it is considered to be IMPORTANT.
ADD THE Torres STRAIT ISLANDER flag TOOO!!
ADD ALL the FLAGS! |

You need to check with your local Council. They make the decision on whether or not a flag can be flown outside a house. You will also need to notify them that it's an American flag. |

One thing I noticed about the US and Canada is that people are fairly into flying flags outside their house.
This really isn't a big thing here (at least not here in Melbourne!). So you'd stand out, but that's about it.
It really depends on where you are in Australia I'd say to how accepting people would be of it. You shouldn't have too much trouble in the major cities, but be wary the further out you go.
Hope this helps! x |

"Everyone's proud to be an American"? So sayeth an Obamabot. If everyone is proud, then why am I getting a German and Socialist flag?? I live in America and same question applies. But I don't love this country, so I could care less what people think. Ehhh? That's what I thought.
I think people who get flags are overrated. I mean, all respect for you and for loving you country, but I find it drastic. I don't think you need a flag to love your country. Some people overdo it. I see cars decked out in crap and it's really pathetic. Props to you if you love this country, but don't look stupid doing it... |

Of course. Australian's are a relaxed people, but flying flags outside our homes is definitely not the norm like it is in parts of the US. So whilst it might draw attention from people, no one would confront you on it or anything dramatic like that. |

Simply NO.. We are Australia not America so most people are not going to like it.
Also did you hear a little while ago on the news, a guy in QLD had an Australian flag on his front lawn, his neighbour complained to council who ordered him to take it down, the guy refused and council after months of fighting finally gave in.
But there's no way in hell they would allow a flag from outside Australia, if this is the controversy to fly an Australian flag.
Personally if you flew an Australian AND an America flag it wouldn't concern me, but after hearing that story, I wouldn't be flying any flag. |

It depends what country you are in, as some people might go crazy over it. But, in 90% of the world, it would be fine, as long as you are from America. |
