Would you consider australian culture to be "masculine" in general?

i had this thought when i was visiting japan. i'm a girl, half-japanese, half-aussie, australia-born. in terms of social interaction and stuff, japan seems more feminine than average and australia seems more masculine -- the blokes are blokes, the women are masculine. in attitude, personality, appearance, the way we interact with others, etc. (i don't see this as a bad thing, it's liberating!)

what do you think? i know it's dumb to generalise anyway...

"jerry m" you sure have a crap view of females if you're suggesting that murdoch lies and is *therefore* feminine.

Personally yes, I think Australia has a very 'blokey' culture, with lots of emphasis on masculine values and life attitudes.

I agree it's not necessarily a bad thing, everywhere has its own culture and that's ours.

It's probably part and parcel of forming a new culture and nation from ten boatloads full of blokes and half a hundred females ~ I would imagine the early years were very male oriented and the culture stayed that way.

(Of course the aboriginal cultures may have or are been totally different, but they weren't taken much into account in the early days, or even now!)

Cheers :-)

Yep. But you're comparing a western country to an eastern country which is generally more feminine in their approaches. Try comparing Australia to Germany for example, they even call their country 'fatherland' in literature. If you're interested, look up Hofstede cultural dimensions, it's an interesting study. Good luck!

Yeah I would consider Australia's culture "masculine", some of the best gay guys come from Australia too.

That would depend on whether the typical Aussie is more like Paul Hogan or Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch seems like someone who feels inadequate and has to tell lies about those he envies to drag them down to his pitiful level.

But Why??
Well aparently those chicks at Firmwood, I mean Fernwood want to be masculine.....So yeah Australian culture is masculine.
