Would you say a prayer for the people in Victoria, Australia?

It was the worst day in Australian history for bushfires.

You don't have to be religious - your thoughts for these unfortunate people is a blessing.

I have been praying for our fellow Aussies that have lost loved ones, their homes and their pets at this devastating time.

A prayer for one of my contacts Anthony S who is married with
6 children and lives at Wandong Victoria - all the best buddy..

I am a little like otto... I am not really religious.. but the people who are suffering are very much in my thoughts...

I live in an area that COULD have suffered the same fate if not just for sheer luck... so I feel so much for the people.

To think last night we had not heard of any deaths as a result and now the toll is 84 and still expected to climb.....

I hope that there is no further tragedy this summer...

i wont say a prayer as im not religious but my thoughts are with them. i cant believe how bad these fires have been. i just hope theres some rain down south soon enough to help put them out

Send your prayers not just to those who have lost everything, homes, family and property but to those fantastic people who are out their doing their bit fighting the fires and putting their own lives at risk.

To those who are trying to save the lives of the burns victims in hospital, those who are trying to help wildlife and those who are giving time at central points to assist people who have nowhere to go and are desperately trying to find family and friends.

This morning (monday) there are 108 confirmed dead and that is expected to rise to nearer 170 as fires are extinguished and authorities can access the more isolated areas.

Here in Melbourne we havent had rain for 9 weeks, a few drops on Saturday that didnt even register. In the fire zones the slight showers evaporated before hitting the ground. The current weather forecast doesnt predict rain at least in the coming weeks.

We had temperatures of 49 celsius (around 120 farenheit) on Saturday . The wind temperatures were over 100km per hour. The wind swept the fires along and residents said that houses virtually melted. The flames were the size of a 10 storey building reaching up.

One couple who live near one of the worst fire sites had a dairy farm. They lost everything and had to run for their lives. They are older people who said that they cant start again at their age. The woman said that the arsonists who light these fires get a few seconds of gratification without giving the slightest thought to how their actions impact on others.

In Australia we all know what summer can mean and its difficult to conceive the magnitude of the devastation that this weekend has left us with.

Im lucky that I live in the main metropolitan area of Melbourne but I have family who have had to evacuate their property before....if you have ever been in that situation or had family and friends in that situation you have some idea of what its like.

Most of the deaths have come as a consequence of people trying to flee their homes in cars and not being able to outrun the fire. Others have come as a result of people thinking they can stay and save their homes and property...last Saturday they had no hope.

Update: Melbourne 3pm - 126 confirmed deceased, more expected.

Update: Tuesday morning 10/2/09 - Number of confirmed deceased now risen to 173 with more still expected.

Everytime I see the figure climb I go numb. I cannot fathom how the families of 173 people are coping. Please, if you live in Australia and havent donated but can I ask that you try to give something to the appeals. These people are desperate...they have lost their homes and loved ones and need our help and support.

Yes, Princess. Our family will pray for the people of Australia.

I would like to express my sympathy to the people and communities who have been effected by these fires. No one should ever have to go through a tragedy of this magnitude.

Latest reports are 93 dead, many in a critical condition in hospital. Several towns totally wiped out with no buildings left standing.

More deaths are expected as firefighters and rescuers get into previously isolated areas.

bezhard08@att.net
Yes I would, and hope they get all the help needed, just to make it.

Lord, be with those who are suffering, whether it be emotionally, physically, spiritually or financially. Restore what belongs to your people I pray. In Jesus' precious name, we praise You, Father, for what you are doing. Amen.

I am in the Top End of Australia and just wish we could send some of our rain their way.

My thoughts and prayers are with my southern cousins in this time.

I feel so numb when I see the death toll - 84 and rising. It is so unbelievable.
