Lets reestablish the context of your question, xenophobia or racism is prejudice against a segment of the community, prejudice is not just on race it includes prejudice based on religion, gender, sexuality, age and many more, so perhaps a better question would be to ask about prejudice.

Then you must compare prejudice against something, is prejudice in Australia better or worse than elsewhere.

So is Australia more prejudiced than countires like:
India No!
Japan,Korea,China,Vietnam No!
Malaysia, Indonesia No!!!!!
All the middle eastern nations No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nigeria, S Africa, Kenya No
Greece, Italy,Germany, France, UK, Spain, Netherlands NO!
USA No!
Canada No
NZ No

So all in all Australia is a much better place to live than nearly everywhere else no matter who you are

Yep I'm a xenophobe- I've yet to encounter the white American that does not make me physically sick!

molly
Please explain.
A quote coined by a politician you could call xenophobic which unfortunately exists in every country.
I wouldn't like to point the finger at any other country and judge them.

Of course SOME people are xenophobic.
You'll find that anywhere you travel.

You can't go generalising about any country.

Some Australians - yes, certainly. Hopefully not the majority. As to whether it's more or less xenophobic than Canada or the US, I have no idea. At a guess I would say probably more than Canada (although they have the French/English divide there which causes a lot of angst) and less than the USA (although therer are parts of that country that are extremely multicultural and tolerant).

Certainly we are an isolated country and there are some that would prefer to keep it that way. Those people are idiots though.

I was an Asian student in australia for a few years and I have encountered racism in Australia before. Surprinsingly, it is the young teenagers and the adults below the age of 30 who display racism, especially towards Asian males. The elderly whom have experienced World war 2 and those who went through the 1960s were the most open and least racist. I believe that the current generation of Australians are becoming more racist because of increasing immigration and because they have not experienced hardship before. I was a conscripted soldier once and I always felt that there was a toughness as well as tolerance to the elderly in Australia that is simply not present in the current generation of teenagers and young adults.

Please explain.

you can only get xenophobia in australia with a prescrition.

strine strumpet
Australia cannot be accused of xenophobia....we have such a mixed bag of people over here. This country is very particular...not in terms of race or creed, but by ability.

'Tis a good thing.

I would say that a country that is built on immigration is going to be less xenophobic by nature, friction between competing imigrant groups sometimes looks like xenophobia.

Austria, not Australia is a very xenophobic country..

arbitrary k
People will always be scared or fearful of the unknown.

Education & exposure can work, to erase this sentiment.

step
Of course Australians are xenophobic. I've been insulted and sworn at in bars simply because of my English nationality.

QLD RULES
Your question is Xenophobic because you assume all white people are racists........

Yes there is Xenophobia in Australia. In fact I've been told many times that my actions are 'Un-Australian' (and I always laugh at the losers who tell me that).

I can't say if it's any more Xenophobic than the USA or Canada, but I do believe every nation on earth contains Xenophbic elements.

I do believe there's more Xenophobia in Australia than in New Zealand or the UK. But to be fair it's not at all THAT high a level in Australia, you'll only notice it from time to time.

P.S. Just ignore "QLD RULES". If it's not already obvious, he's a moron.
