Are there many indians in austria?
just wondering what the indian population is in austria.
are there many indians there?
and how good would you say the racial/religious tolerance is there?
The Indian population is not very large. It's probably most largest in the capital of Vienna, which has a population over 1 million and is a more international city. Here in Linz (where I live) we have one Indian food store and 2 small Indian restaurants and Linz is the third largest city in Austria.
As far as racial/religious tolerance goes, 74% of everyone in this country is Catholic and 5% is Protestant (12% are atheist). The rest are Muslim due to the influx from Turkey, etc.
I've added a link to an online article about xenophobia in Austria. While I would say most citizens are tolerant, many are very conservative, do not view Austria as "melting pot" of many nations and are not crazy about foreigners moving here. This is reflected in the gaining popularity of right-wing political parties who play off of the fear of many ignorant Austrians and promote xenophobic lines of thought here.
