This spring, but I had been before. Love it, in fact mad about it. Lovely place. Friendly natives. Tasty food . Good ski slopes. Wonderful Vienna: quality shops and lots of culture. NICE!

I´m a Austrian girl. And I find it nice that you think so positive about my home country. I read the answers of your question, it´s not only nice. And I don´t really understand what DAVID C mean. I know the tourist places like Kitzbühl who you can skiing, it´s very expensive. If you came to Austria you should visit Steiermark and Graz. I think, you will like Steiermark. ;-)

If David C knew anything about the history of Austria, he would know that Hitler revoked his own citizenship by becoming German.

I was in Wien last week! Horrible windy weather but I didn't care it was great just to be there again. Had a perfect puten schnitzel in the Bistro Muzeum just off Wiedner Hauptstrasse and bought some wonderful wine from Buchart 58 in Soos (highly recommended). Could only stay for two days but I hope to be back before Christmas!

Austria is in fact the Tyroll, but if you wanted an answer to a question in German, you should have asked it on the German site.

So Is Austria Mad? some Austrians are, but on the whole I found the place expensive and a little conservative. It was far better over the border in Slovenia, and my pound went much further.

Austrians like to think that it is also free of Mad cows, way back in 2001 a final test on a single cow that had been born in the Tyrol province were enough for the politicians to confirm that it was BSE-free,

Its a shame that they now are reporting their (2006) fourth case of mad cow disease, this time in the northern province of Upper Austria.. so there are mad cows...

Mad politicians too, one wants to revoke Arnold Schwarzenegger's Austrian citizenship over the execution of Donald Beardslee, but they haven't revoked Adolf Hitlers citizenship have they?
