I'd suggest you go by train.Going from Vienna station West it will take you between two hours 37 minutes and 3 hours 18 minutes, depending on the type of train you choose (OEC being the fastest, IC and OIC being the slowest).

There are about 16 daily trains between 8:22AM and 5:34PM, the OEC leaves in hourly intervals.
OEC (fastes ones) leaves at 8:22AM, 9:30AM, 1:30PM, 3:30 PM, 4:22PM, 5:30PM (only the 8:22AM train arrives in 2:37, the other ones travel for 2:57)
OIC trains leave at 8:34AM, 10:31AM, 11:34AM, 12:34PM, taking you 2:57.
IC leaves at 9:35AM, 1:34PM, 2:34PM, 3:34PM, 4:34PM, 5:34PM, travelling 3:18.

Standard ticket for the fastest OEC at 8:22AM is 42.80 euro second class or 65.90 euro first class.

Bus is not really an option in Austria. They're slow, expensive and hardly ever travel across the different states anyway. Students, kids, families who're not going by car usually go by train here.
