Salzburg is both an Austrian Bundesland (like a state) and a city (the capital of the Bundesland), while Carinthia is a Bundesland only (the capital being "Klagenfurt"). Klagenfurt and Salzburg City are about 220km apart. A train journey takes about 3 and a quarter hours, an hour less if you go by car.
