Austrians speak German but every region has a dialect - native speakers don't really sound very much like how Germans speak in Germany because of the regional dialects.
The food is great, get the Schnitzel, and try some sausages, and Knudel (it's a big potato dumpling). The euro is the currency and unfortunately your dollar won't go too far. I hope you get to tour Vienna, see the Hofburg Palace and Schonbrunn Palace. They're beautiful.
