Walking shoes - remember that cobbled streets are NOT high-heel friendly (voice of experience).
Pocket umbrella - while the weather will likely be HOT, you could get rain on a moment's notice.
A SECURE purse (with a long shoulder strap you can put over your head/across your chest) - pickpockets from neighbouring countries are PLENTIFUL - watch for teams working to distract/rob - often use children as part of their operations.
Travel document/money holders which can be worn under your clothes.
Lastly, an adverturous palate - by all means EAT LOCAL - stay away from tourist traps ($$$) and stuff you can eat at home - choose local cuisine. Ask store clerks where THEY eat with their own families.
Have a BALL - I envy you ! It's been a couple of years since I was there last.

Where in Austria? Bregenz, SalzBurg, Vienna or Graz?

EDITED BASED ON STADT:

Eisenstadt is beautiful and I would stronly suggest you take a pair of hiking boots and tennis shoes. You will be traversing cobblestone streets and if you go into the outlying hills, tennis shoes will shred on the rocks.

I would also suggest changing your currency at Vienna if you can but NOT at the airport. Otherwise, you will get a very low exhange rate

If you get the chance to go to Vienna take at least 4 rolls of film and nag your guide to take you to MariaHilfe Stre. starting at the Palace.

My apartment is three blocks from there <grin>
