It would help to know his name, or any particulars you might have. There is a scheme of compulsory address registration in place in Austria ("Meldepflicht"), so it might be possible to locate his address that way.

One link for you to use might be how you found out he had a baby girl. Through whom did you find out? Do you know where the girl was born? Her name? This would be very helpful.

I have found that if you question Austrian public agencies, you get help (this is not necessarily true in the U.S.). So if you have some information, being able to ask about it in German (with help, if necessary) might be a good option.

Please combine this with what previous answerers told you.

You can try the Austrian online directory

http://www.herold.at/servlet/at.herold.sp.servlet.SPWPHomeServlet?context=WP&sd=AH6_11925490173730106&rd=&unid=ROOT-herold_main:2

this links to the English version but bear in mind that many mobile phone numbers are not in it.
