I try to go to Salzburg biannually for The Augustiner Brewery amongst other things. The Eagles nest is within driving distance. Other than that here is the tourism office website. Hope it helps. http://www2.salzburg.info/

Well, I don't think that you will find many sights with a connection to WW2- of course, there's the whole the sound of music thing but I don't think that's what you are looking for - Vienna would be the better choice...

Salzburg is a good starting point for a trip to Berchtesgaden and a visit to "Hitler's Lair", known as the "Eagle's Nest".
This would be a day-trip.
Salzburg and it's Historic center is a World Heritage Site - many interesting things to do and discover, even if not directly related to WW II.

been there i've lived there for more than 10 years. there is not much going on in saltsburg about ww2. but if you wanna go some where really historical you are in the right place, in saltsburg. there is beautiful music sung on the streets. and walking around is very nice.if your thinking about a round trip you should also go to carinthia which is located east of saltsburg. vienna is also very beautiful.
