Visiting Austria in April?

I am going skiing in Austria in a couple of months and wondered if it was compulsory to wear a helmet while skiing there. If so is it for all people, or just for under 16's or what?
I would be very grateful if you could help.

They are voting on a law as of now. I would suggest you certainly go out and buy a helmet. In case you hadn't heard, a Slovak just died from a collision on the slopes when she hit one of Germany's prime minsters who was also skiing.

It's really important, especially in a place like Austria where the skiers are are born skiing extremely well. And you never know what the conditions are going to be like on any given day. It's important to be careful! I always don a ski helmet when I go on the slopes.

Well in Austria wearing a ski helmet is not compulsory YET.
They are voting on it right now, to see if Austrians want to introduce a law that states that wearing a ski helmet is compulsory.
Then there would be no minimal age.
Everybody would HAVE to wear a ski helmet.

However if you are going to be skiing in Austria, I would HIGHLY recommend it, as ski accidents are almost daily in Austria.
And the main reason that so many people get injured during accidents is that they DO NOT wear ski helmets.
