You can visit the "Salzkammergut". It is a region with a lot of different lakes. In winter, it is a skiing paradise, in summer, you can go hiking, swimming,... Even Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth ("Sissi")used to spend the summer months there.

The "Wachau" is part of the Danube River valley. It is a very picturesque area. Famous wines are grown there, and also apricots, because the climate is very good. I would recommend a trip by ship:

Also the national parks of Austria are very interesting and worth seeing them:

And don´t forget the towns like Vienna and Salzburg with a lot of monuments.

I've not been to Switzerland, but I did enjoy my trip to Austria. One of the things I saw that was most impressive, and somewhat out of the norm to see, was the Eagle's Nest. From the mountain tops of this site, you are looking onto the mountain range used in the opening scene of The Sound of Music. It's breathtaking. It's unfortunate that such a place was built for Hitler, but it really is a site worth seeing. We also stopped in Salzburg, which is a nice town with great shops, restaurants, and cafes.
