Oh wow, four days is not enough! There are SO many places to go, things to do, people to see.
I'm assuming you'll want to see Vienna for its historical standpoint, right? Well you HAVE to go to Stefansdom (St. Stephen's Cathedral). It's right in the heart of the first district, and it is my favorite church in the world. It's breathtaking- be sure to go inside! Also, I would recommend visiting Karlskirche (The Karl's Cathedral). It's a different architectural time period, but beautiful and famous nonetheless.
The Tiergarten Schönbrunn (Schönbrunn Zoo) is fantastic. And if you can get a tour of Schönbrunn, that would be awesome as well.
For restaurants (I don't know what your price range is so I'm going to name everything I love), the city of Vienna has some of the finest in the world. I would especially recomment Plachuta. This restaurant has never made me feel so full in my entire life. But the cuisine is to die for!
I also recommend a cafe called Damel's which is very popular. It is customary for everyone to take a kafestunde (coffee hour) during the day, so this is where you'll want to head for your coffee hour (make sure you get the Sachertorte [chocolate cake native to Austria] and a hot chocolate! It's a winning combo).
There is a very small restaurant that is really a locals place, but it serves excellent food. It's in Wresselpark- and I'm pretty sure it's just called that, too (the owner is Milosch I know that for sure). The food is well priced, and it'll leave you full and happy!
There's plenty of places you'll find to eat on your own. Pretty much anywhere you go in Vienna, you will be served top-rated food. The city is just too good for food. :) Normally I'd also suggest a place called the Schweizerhaus, but I think the indoor section may be closed during this time of year.
For amusement, check out Prater Park (where the Schweizerhaus is). It's a cute theme park with some nice rides and plenty of good sights. There is also a nature park right next to it that's very nice to walk around in.
As for transportation, honestly the best way to get around the city is to walk. If you're going further though, you'll want to make use of the buses and trollies above ground. The fair is cheap-ish. And for faster results, take the subway underground. You can also take a taxi if you wish- but if you make yourselves clearly tourist-like, then they will take a longer route to get your money.
Have a wonderful visit in Vienna. If you need more details, feel free to contact me. I may live in America, but Vienna is my second home. :) |
