1. Prater - this is a huge adventure world and it is the No.1 tourist attraction in Vienna. Great place both for kids and adults! It is nothing like our adventure parks in the UK, i promise you will want to go back over and over again. The place is huge and there is no way you can see everything in one day!
2. Belvedere Palace - stunning! make sure you get up early as there is so much to see!
3. Schönbrunn Palace - breathtaking! - again, one afternoon will not be enough, make sure you arrive early, there is so much to see
4. St. Stephan's Cathedral - in the heart of Vienna
5. Mariahilfer Strasse - the largest shopping mall in Vienna! Including famous restaurants, bars, caffes etc! Do not miss this one!
6. Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts)
7. Liechtenstein Museum
8. Stadtpark

Have a great time :)

im glad that you choose to go to vienna because it's a beautifull city especialy during new years that's why im going this year again.i visited vienna about 3 years ago and i stayed there for 3 weeks with my girl friend and we loved every minute of it.

don't be worried about where you have to go to visit.you see vienna has a metro that stops in every part of the city.it's like you have your own shuffer.
just go there and let them take care of you.

vienna its a place to live and die for.

good luck.

Kaertner Strasse (main street; U1 Stephansplatz)

Prater (Old amusement park from the movie "Before Sunrise", U1 Prater)

Narsch Markt (Traditional farmers market U4, Pilgrimsgasse)

Opera (The large famous building where the Vienna ball is held. U1, Karlsplatz)

Stadtpark (A large beautiful park in the middle of the city U2 Stadtpark)

Schottentor (A large beautiful church U2 Schottenring)

Schoen-brunn (The zoo, as well as the famous castle/mansion MUST see)

Kaisermuehlen VIC (The United Nations Headquarters in Vienna)

There are just so many places to name but these are the ones that I usually showed people who came to visit me in Vienna.

*Sorry for the spelling errors, I don't have umlauts on my keyboard at the moment and am not used to writing German words without them.

Impossible to really single out one place or area, it's just a truly beautiful city and will not disappoint. For a really good view of the city, go to the top of St Stephens Cathedral. The Danube Tower is higher, but too far out of the city for the views to be that great.
