What to expect: I was in Brazil roughly ten years ago, but I can tell you that not a lot has changed down there. Especially if you'll be in Sao Paulo. There is no middle-class. You're either wealthy or you're not. Don't wear any flashy jewelry, and carry your money in your sock unless you're cabbing it everywhere. In Sao Paulo, there is a lot of crime. People get mugged on the street with tons of witnesses around, but nobody will come forward to admit what they saw. In the month that I was there, 867 people were killed. Those that have money are pretty nice, those that don't are willing to take whatever possessions you have. Be careful, but Carnaval kicks ***. |

Excuse me Brazil dangerous, violent, poor, slummy ? yes and NO, Brazil has got a lot of what you come to expect in Europe and USA, homes have all the latest gadgets, people have cellphones, good clothes, cars and motorcycles, they can get credit, mortgages now, there is a GROWING middle class emerging now as well. Its not all bad.
Sao Paulo and Rio has problems with criminal gangs and you get that anywhere in the world. More and more people are getting more and more access to better healtcare and standard of life, its a slow conversion process but its happening.Okay ? Enjoy yourself when you get to Sao Paulo an enjoy Carnaval. Its brilliant! Just be careful as you would be when in any strange place! Learn a bit of the language before you go! |

you Will be very OK.....universal language is always understood particularly between the sexes....you bet they are friendly....also, keep out of certain areas to keep from being robbed...but you will be around the carnival..should be OK.... |

Don't worry. It's like any other place. Carnavale is in Rio, which is a huge city. People won't be going out of their way to say hi or talk to you, but I'm sure if you ask the time or for directions, people would be more than willing to help you out. A lot of Brazilians speak English. There are dangerous areas just like anywhere else, just make sure you stick with a friend at all times. Have fun! |

There are good people (the majority are) and bad people everywhere. Just like anywhere else be careful and follow the laws of the land. Go with someone you trust who can speak the language. Have fun!!! :) |

Recife is a cool place to go. Are you going to Recife or Pernambuco? Because it depends where in Recife - PE you are going to. Pernambuco is too big, some places are too dangerous others not. |

In1999 I worked in Brazil for 6mos.(Rio/Sao Paulo). I thought the people were very nice.Try to learn a little of the language (Portugese), carry a Portugese to English dictionary, you will be suprised how many people try to help you. You wont find as many english speakers as you do in Europe. As in any big city, watch your valuables, the poorer the area the more crime. |

The other day someone told George W. Bush that 10 brazilian soldiers had been killed in action.
"That's terrible," he said. Then he thought for a moment and added "How many is a brazilian, anyway?" |
