I'll get you some info outside Rio
There's a lot of great beaches around here but one of the best is "porto de galinhas" a beach at a state called Recife. =] The Nordeste ones are all amazing

An amazin Natural attraction could be Chapada Diamantina ( go to google images ) Bahia [ or even Pão de Açúcar at Rio ]
About the cultural event and best month, I think that you need to decide the month to choose all what you want to know.
