Brazil: movies and stereotypes?
I'm writing a paper about the depiction of Brazilians in movies produced in Brazil and abroad...
What stereotypes are associated with Brazil? (As an American, what do you think of when you think of Brazil? If you're Brazilian, what stereotypes have you encountered?)
How are Brazilians depicted in American movies (amorous, Brazil is a get-away spot, Carmen Miranda films)?
How are Brazilians depicted in Brazilian movies (violent, sad movies)?
Sources would be great of course!
Anyway I have it mostly finished, I just want to see if there's anything important I left out, so anything would help!
Well, the only Brazilian movie I've seen was "House of Sand", and it really didn't give any stereotypes from what I remember.
Stereotypes about Brazilian people:
-Both the men and women are sexy and great lovers
-There are a lot of homosexuals and the nation supports gay pride
-Soccer is associated with Brazil
I'm sure if your paper is almost done, you've probably addressed these already. It sounds like an interesting paper to read, though. Good luck!
