You should try Samba and MPB.

Samba has got lots of different "sons", like the Pagode. Nice examples of "pagodeiros" (Pagode singers) are Zeca Pagodinho and Martinho da Vila. I like Zeca's songs Caviar, É devagar devagarinho and Deixa a Vida me Levar.

MPB means Música Popular Brasileira, or Brazilian Pop Music. Great examples are Ana Carolina, Marisa Monte and Adriana Calcanhoto. I reccomend you Rosas and É Isso Aí, by Ana Carolina, Amor I love you, by Marisa Monte, and Devolva-me, Vambora and Fico Assim sem Você, by Adriana Calcanhoto.

In case of feeling "cultural", you should try the singers from the times of Dictatorship, like Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. A very beautiful song is Pra Não Dizer que Não falei das Flores, that I don't know exactly who composed and sung. But it's very nice.

Samba music is another genre of Brazilian music that most brazilians listen to. You can also listen to some Brazilian Radio stations to get more music. I listen to them a lot. One is: www.jovempanfm.com.br
There are a lot of American songs though, but they play Brazilian songs too.

Funk Carioca is my favorite. I also like samba.
