What city will you be staying ?

My family is in Campinas, Sao Paulo

Will this be your 1st visit ? If so.. You're going to have an AWESOME TIME .. my mom is brazilian too .. but I moved away from Brazil when I was 3. So I grew up in New Orleans where my dad is from.

So I visited Brazil for the 1st time 3 years ago with my bestfriend. We took a 2 week tour of Rio, Salvador and the Iguacu Falls. Then we stayed 2 more weeks with my family who I met for the 1st time. It was the best time of my life .. the people are great .. they are so happy and friendly everywhere I went. I've been back to visit my family every year since and love it.

What really helped me on my 1st trip was this book
http://www.amazon.com/Lonely-Planet-Brazil-Regis-Louis/dp/1741040213/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5/102-7064805-2942536?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191889407&sr=8-5

Its a book about Brazil by *Lonely Planet* ( dont get any other book about Brazil except by them)

I read much of it before my trip and it was VERY helpful. I even took it with me. It has info about every state and every major city It has some history .. explains the culture .. traditions .. what to expect .. what they typically eat.. slang .. some common portuguese phrases .. typical weather for the cities.. what to wear and pack .. Its really a great read

Do you understand any portuguese ? If so.. learning portuguese for you will be easy. I know of some cool websites that have some lessons with audio.. just message me if you are interested.

Boa Sorte

I know in Brazil they have american schools So.. it wouldn't be a problem to you to speak...
but if you want to learn portuguese.. and do well in school... you better hurry... and start taking some classes here in the US
Where r u going to live?
Just be aware in Brazil.. the highschool system is different from here.. it can take a while to get adapted.
Good Luck!

Just remember that the American schools in Brazil are required by law to have Portuguese classes and you have to pass that. So start learning. I know the have special programs for new students that just came from abroad, but you are still required to take the classes and pass.
Also, they are in a few cities, the bigger ones, but depends where your family lives in Brazil, remember, its a big country.
