Can you help me decide if I would be safe in Brazil?

When looking through the questions and answers in the Brazilian subcategory, I noticed that alot of the response is very unbiased, so I'd like to hear from those who live in Brazil (and those who don't) whether or not it would be a good decision to live in Brazil. Basically, I want to teach English as a second language overseas. I am Canadian, and I'd really like to live in Brazil. Im single and only 18, but I have alot of common sense when it comes to being safe and aware of my surroundings. My top choice for a city would be Curitiba, but I'm definately not picky. Any thoughts, suggestions, or comments would be really appreciated. Thank you!

1st - You need to know that Brazil is the 5th larger country of the world.
http://www.portalbrasil.net/brasil.htm
2nd - Brazil is divided in 5 geographical areas.
North, northeast, I center west, southeast and south.
3rd - Curitiba is in the south area of Brazil.
It was colonized by Portuguese, Italians and Germans.
4th - Curitiba the is considered more Europeans of all of the Brazilian cities. The population has high instruction degree, they speak more than one language, and they have high life quality.
5th - Care when you asks information about Curitiba, don't accept that someone gives you information about Rio de Janeiro, SĆ£o Paulo, Minas Gerais, Amazon, Bahia, CearĆ”, because they are different geographical areas. They were colonized by different people and they behave in a different way.
Your choice for Curitiba was excellent, it is a city very well administered, It has public services of excellent quality (the best of Brazil), good school, good hospitals, good public transportation. It is a calm city, it is safe, and with very good degree of development.

See in Google Earth types:
Curitiba, ParanĆ”, Brasil

Like any country you've got your dangerous communities & you've got the safer atmospheres.

Hi!

I really like Canada, and I’ve lived there a year ago, in Sun Peaks, near Kamloops, BC. Hope you enjoy your stay here!

About the question, as an underdeveloped country, we have lots of problems with violence. However, if you take some measures, you would be safe around here. Try not to walk alone during the night and be discreet (no cameras or iPod’s on visible areas). An attempt to be with your Brazilian friends, because they can probably make you safe!

If you decide to come and live in Curitiba, I recommend that you visit http://www.curitiba-travel.com.br/ . But if you change your mind, we have lots of similar cities, like Florianópolis ( http://www.florianopolis-travel.com.br ) or Belo Horizonte ( http://www.belo-horizonte.travel ).

Best regards!

Brazil is beautiful. I“ve lived here for two months and couldn“t be happier. I haven“t got robbed and all I“ve used is my common sense..

im brasilian from Rio de Janeiro, currently living in miami, where im from is known for the most violence in all of south america, before you live here you need to know how to live like a local, you need to know how we live to live there. you need to have common sense and per caution that's all, just you know don't walk with valuable stuff in your hand and never leave your bag unattended, always pay attention to the taxi drivers because they sometimes go in circles! dont walk by yourself at night! if you want to go out, and always be careful mostly with the men!!! they say anything to get you back to his place! but since your going to curitiba, you wont have a problem, they're all ugly and like country! lol but dont worry you'll be fine in wherever you live just always keep your eyes open and careful who you trust!

Look! Brazil is a good country.
As a matter in fact, Brazil has a high scale of criminality according as the International Organizations.
But usually these numbers are counted in Rio de Janeiro - RJ. Rio de Janeiro is a beautiful city, but unfortunately is dangerous.
Curitiba has a different way of life more different than the other parts of Brazil. When you are in Curitiba, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul (the states of the South), it seems you are in another country.
I won't deny that there is violence there. By the way, the violence is in all the world. Am I right?
My advice is: Don't escape of your dreams because of your fears. If we let the fear take all the spaces, we won't do anything else. Ok?
By the way, I'm studying Modern Languages (Portuguese/ English).
Who knows we can be colleagues, leraning in the same school.
Come and stay with God! XOXO!

I suggest you do your "research", and get to know the country. read this

And get to know our Fanatasim (same with basically every country except America and/or Canada) with Futebol (soccer).
