Do they have these in Brazil? |
I know it might seem silly, but I am going on a study abroad and I want to bring my host family some stuff that is unfamiliar there.
~pancakes
~Resee's Peanut Butter Cups
~smoked salmon
~Burt's Bees Chapstick
~jam/jelly
~Hershey's Chocolate
~macaroni and cheese
Ooh, and another question I had was: Do they use the same type of CD's there? What about DVD's? Additional Details And people, I know that Brazil is just as civilized and has as much stuff as the US. I was just thinking about how they dont really use peanut butter in Europe and I was just checking! |

~pancakes - We don't have ready made pancakes, not that I can recall now. Usually we just buy the ingredients and make them ourselves.
~Resee's Peanut Butter Cups - We have Amendocrem, which is Brazilian make peanut butter but it's not as good as the American peanut butter which can be found at some supermarkets such as Pão de Açúcar. It's expensive though. Last time I bought it it costed R$14,00 (around U$7,00).
~smoked salmon - I can't find the same smoked salmon I used to buy in Europe but many restaurants have it (like Marieta's smoked salmon wrap - it's delicious!). I don't know if they smoke the salmon themselves or if they buy it ready. But I never found it ready made at the supermarket.
~Burt's Bees Chapstick - Don't know what that is.
~jam/jelly - Yes! All kinds and many come from Europe. Delicious!
~Hershey's Chocolate - Yes! :) Very popular here.
~macaroni and cheese - We have macaroni and we have cheese. Don't know if that's a recepi, but I'm sure it can be made.
Oh, something we don't have and I really miss is Mars Chocolate.

If the CDs and DVD have international code it should play here. |

The stuffs you are talking about is not unfamiliar in Brazil. Might the smoked salmon, it is not so appreciate there, we prefer fresh salmon. The american kitchen is really different than the Brazilian kitchen, kinds of products the americans like to have in the table, we do not! So, is better you do not buy those stuffs, except the Chocolat, wich is always welcome to give to someone, just be sure the family there is not diabetic before buy it.
I hope you have a good contact and trip with this family. |

Darlin', the world has gotten very small. You will be hard pressed to find much that they CAN'T get there...That said, with much experience in Europe, but little in South America...jam and Jelly, I am SURE they have...Hershey's chocolate and Reese's are a good bet, too.
Pancakes they might have a hard time finding, especially away from large metropolitan areas, and smoked salmon, ditto...
Macaroni and cheese? You mean, in a box? Those, like pancakes, you can MAKE. I would suggest trying with some locally popular cheese.
think about these: Hand made things that are unique...something that sort of SAYS where you are from...there are many shops where people sell their crafts...and also sport team apparel, and university things... baseball caps, tee shirts and sweatshirts...well, maybe not sweastshirts for Brazil!
How about a locally made photo frame, then you can take a photo while you are there, of the group of you, and put it into the frame before you leave. I stole that idea from another poster...:) |

First off, this poor girl is just asking what to bring to her family, and I can totally understand here questions. My goodness, I'm sure she's just a child, give her a break. At least she is trying to bring her new family something they can ENJOY!
Now, having had a Brazilian boyfriend, I can tell you he was IN LOVE with Reese's Peanut Butter cups that I brought him, as well as CHEEZ ITS- he LOVED those. Of course, I loved everything he had from Brazil.I know electronics are A LOT more expensive there, so be sure you're bringing your own music player, and don't plan on getting one there, as its a lot of money compared to here. I know what I did my last trip was brought some really cool headphones for cd players, ipods, that sort of thing. Just an idea. Also, make sure you bring pictures of the area that you live, such as shopping malls and your home, as I know that was a big interest of my boyfriends family.
Enjoy your trip, and have a great time~ |

Sorry, I don't know what you imagine about Brazil, but, it's clear it is not good, due to your questions. I don't know what people said to you about Brazil, but, I'm sure is very, very different of our reality. So, I invite you (again) to know more about Brazil watching my favorite videos:
